riley probably thinking " that im out of this mess".
You know Riley is looking for the first opportunity to grab some glory again.
EDIT: Ah, crap, already a thread about it.
riley probably thinking " that im out of this mess".
He's getting killed by Heat fans right now..
heat players are not mad they lost the other night and boston beat them
they could care less
james thinks heat can turn it on in the playoffs and win a le and the hear how great the heat can just turn that switch on
wade needs to call a team meeting IMO
at this point, spoelstra needs a 10 game winning streak to save his job.
Who reallly though spolestra would e the answer for a TEAM of stars LIKE THIS? He is probably overwhelmed and who can blame him?
Remember, MJ, Shaq and kobe all needed Phil to ring. Duncan needs Pop really if you look at le teams the past 30 years look at the coaches:
Phil
Larry Brown
Pop
Doc
Daly
KC jones
Rudy T
Riley
Doc and KC are the only two above that are not sure-fire HOF'ers.
Yes, they all had great talent ...but you NEED a great coach too.
Not when talking the heat or teh dallas Cowboys .. LOL
Always easier to blame the coach ...trust me, I am a a cowboys fan.
Seriously of COURSE they deserve blane and Bosh is taking the brunt of it ...him and joel Anthony ...LMAO!!
Agree with your point but would nit that Rudy's coaching accomplishments aren't any better than KC or Doc's.
did you see Spoelstra's weak-sauce half-time pep talk?? lmao
it wouldn't have inspired a middle school team.
nope. its the coaches job to motivate his players.
If I was a heat player I wouldn't respect Spoelstra tbh.
lol. "You guys promised to leave the egos at the door before you signed on to the team!! Please work together!! PLEEEEEAASSEE!!"
That's how I heard it.
If that's true, that's en sad.![]()
Sounds like Quincy Jones needs to be coaching them.
Actually, to my understanding, Riley actually doesn't want to return to coaching....
Could Pat Riley really step in for Erik Spoelstra? Phil Jackson thinks so.
Kurt Helin
Stan Van Gundy had the Miami Heat and their big stars Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal off to a decent but behind expectations start of 11-10 when Pat Riley canned him and stepped in to take over as coach. They won a ring.
This season’s Miami Heat are off to a decent but behind expectations 8-6 start and…
Could history repeat itself?
Phil Jackson thinks maybe, as he told ESPN Radio in Chicago (transcribed by ESPNLosAngeles)
“The scenario that sits kind of behind the scene, is that eventually these guys that were recruited — Bosh and James — by Pat Riley and Mickey Arrison, the owner, are going to come in and say, ‘We feel you [Riley] can do a better job coaching the team. We came here on the hopes that this would work,’ and whatever, I don’t know,” Jackson said. “That’s kind of my take on it, is that eventually if things don’t straighten out here soon, it could be the Van Gundy thing all over again.”
Last night, the Indiana Pacers looked like the better coached team. They had much better off-the-ball movement in the half court and tried hard to push the pace when they could. As a team, their defensive help rotations and effort was just better.
Is that Spoelstra’s fault? Is it a lack of leadership on the team? Is it just a matter of the team having not come together and they need more time? Is it that maybe the lack of depth is really coming back to haunt them?
Does any of that even really matter? In practice, the answer is not is it Spoelstra’s fault so much as is it perceived Riley could do the job better?
By all accounts, Riley does not want to come down to the bench and do that grind again. You can be sure that the players — especially guys like Wade that have been through Riley’s legendarily brutal practices — don’t want him down on the bench again. On one hand, this can be Phil Jackson doing what he does best — stirring the pot. Mind games with a potential opponent.
But Riley has set the Heat’s timetable as now, same with James. And right now, Jackson said the Celtics remain the best in the East.
“The Celtics have a defense you have to plan for. Their defense is overwhelmingly a factor in the ballgame,” Jackson said. “They’re going to smother. They’re going to really contest. They’re going to body guys. There’s going to be double-teaming underneath the free-throw line. There are a lot of things that go on there that you have to start planning for.
“Right now, Miami hasn’t kind of shown — the defense has improved recently — they haven’t really shown this is something you really have to plan for. You have to plan how to defend these great individuals that they have. And that’s going to be part of the planning. Boston still gives you a multiple effect as a basketball team.”
Jackson, gettin' his gallon of Super S uncapped.
tee, hee.
Riley won't be ready to coach until Mike Miller is ready to play.
And until Haslem is back.
Phil is definitely playing mind games. But I'm sure he and David Stern both realize that Riley coaching against the Lakers in the Finals would be ratings hype platinum.
Stan Van Gundy, Eric Spoelstra fire back at Phil Jackson
Kurt Helin
Phil Jackson just loves doing what he did to the Heat yesterday, going on the radio in Chicago and lobbing a verbal hand grenade into their midst. As if they weren’t dealing with enough, now they can answer some questions about Pat Riley coming down from on high to take over the team.
Stan Van Gundy fired back on Wednesday, calling Jackson’s comments “ignorant” according to Hoopsworld.
“Well first of all, obviously Phil has no idea what the ‘Van Gundy situation’ was. Even though he coaches in our league, he certainly had no inside knowledge of that so any analogy he would make to my situation would be totally useless because he doesn’t have any clue what the situation was in that case,” Van Gundy said…
“First of all, to second guess another coach and to comment on a situation he knew nothing about is inappropriate and it’s also ignorant. I don’t mean that commenting on Phil’s intelligence; he’s obviously a very smart guy. I mean that as ignorant because he doesn’t know what that situation was and he doesn’t know what the situation in Miami is now. I don’t think, unless their relationship has changed drastically, that he and Pat talk on a regular basis so I doubt he would have any information whatsoever on what’s going on in Miami,” Van Gundy said.
What did Eric Spoelstra tell our own Ira Winderman (via twitter) about the possibility of him being forced out to “spend more time with his family?”
“First of all, I’m single, OK, so I don’t think I’ll be taking a leave from my team to spend time with my family”
Or, Papa Joe Jackson . . .
