They think they're going to get real bang for the buck by cutting the Department of Education, which of course is quite ironic.
Getting rid of the Department of Education is foolish...that's stupid wing-nut talk...
the problem with education is not private versus public...the real problem is poverty and the fact that children of poverty, most who do not get private educations because the private school system is not regulated to accept special needs kids the way public schools are required to, often suffer from learning disabilities, PTSD,..socio-economic, and language deficits...nutrition deficits.....
...that's why Texas is changing from TAKS to the new STAAR ...to many schools were successful at beating the TAKS test, so the state decides to move the goal posts again to 'college readiness for everyone' with the STAAR...as if everyone wants to get into 50K+ debt for a worthless business degree...
Nobody's talking about cutting current SS recipients or those already paying in. There has been talk of a voluntary system of opting out, for putting more money in a personal account. For the results to be as high as they are show most people don't have accurate information to base it on, or it was a push poll, lying about the proposed changes.

The spending has been padded with SS revenues for decades. Not saved or invested. It messes with the real numbers of the deficit and debt.
Raping money from SS is not SS's fault.
