All programs disabled on startup?
This is why I've hung on to my XP for so long.
I got a new notebook about a month or so ago and I'm having problems when it boots up. It gets all the way through the boot process and then hangs up at the very end. If I move the mouse down to the taskbar it just shows the spinning circle and nothing I click on works. I've tried the obvious stuff. It will boot in safe mode but won't boot all the way up in standard mode. I'm running Window 7 with Spyware Doctor and AVG as my antivirus.
Any ideas before I take it in?

SD and AVG are the only things that start automatically.
Yes, boot in safe mode, remove AVG and Spyware Doctor. Get better replacements.
Been using both of them with XP for quite some time and I've never had a problem. I'll disable both, disconnect my internet and boot up and see what happens.
One thing I have on my desktop running Vista is a widget that shows my CPU and RAM usage. A lot of time when my computer is running slow, I look over and notice that the processor and memory are being used, and it turns out it's Kaspersky running an update or a scheduled scan or something of that nature.
First find out what the problem is, then find out why you're having that problem.

yeah, at first I was thinking "isn't benefactor the linux geek around here"... but now I remember that it's baseline bum. I knew it started with a b...
I had a boot up problem restarting after an avg update, so yeah its probably that
I would suggest anyone using AVG to get rid of it.
Get MSE
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
And AVAST free
http://www.avast.com/index
Both are free. Between the 2 of them, one of them will fix your problem.
Thanks. I'm headed home in a few minutes and I will uninstall the AVG when I get there. I just had for extra protection anyway. The SD keeps most everything out.
Jacob...I'll check into those too.
Having the two anti virus programs tend to interfere with each other and can possible cause problems. However, I don't think that would cause what you're describing, but I could be wrong.
MSE tends not to interfere with other quality antivirus software like NOD32, Kapersky and AVAST. AVG/McAfee/Norton are not quality antivirus programs right now.
I know what you mean about AVG. I had it along with Avast and thought I was good. I bought Kapersky, installed, scanned and immediately booted quite a few viruses (virii?), malware and trojans.
Antivirus only offers limited protection, I get that. But the viruses I caught should have been dealt with.
I'm thinking of getting a second total security program (paid or free) to back up Kapersky and see how the 2 do together.
Any recommendations?
Update...got rid of the AVG but it screwed something up and I could not access my internet, even though the computer was telling me the internet was good to go. I wound up restoring back a few days and that fixed it. I'm now running my SD by itself and all is well.
Nathan...I've never looked into it but my brother swears by ZoneAlarm. You might check it out and see what you think.
windows... issues... don't those 2 things always go hand-in-hand?
another ty firewall wannabe antivirus package... blah!
Well...there's your confirmation.
I've had absolutely no issues since adding SD a year and a half ago. We'll see how it holds up on Windows 7.
