    Greetings fellow Spurs fans....

I watched the game intently today...and voila....

im telling you, Manu...he can be a playing coach! Not captain only, or doing the leadership stuff every once in a while....no, the real stuff

I think Manu can be a regular Playing Coach, like Bill Russell.....

    any thoughts guys??

    GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL@Gonzo

Someone here made a good point when they said Manu wants to win so bad that he would not be able to put things behind him, and that he would not be able to understand that most players do not want to win as bad as he does, and maybe he couldn't accept that.

The great coaches were not great players.

I think some ppl may have missed this:

After seeing that, saying Manu won't be a coach in the future is just insane.

You could be describing Pop with what you just said about Manu. Coaching is about knowing the game, knowing people, and being obsessed with winning. Just off the top of my head, Doc Watson, Doug Moe, Paul Silas, Byron Scott were all stand-out players that had/have successful careers as coaches.

None of the people you mentioned have Manu's insatiable compe ive nature. The only other person in the league who does (did) is Kobe Bryant.

why stop at player/coach? Let him get his license and he can also deliver babies at halftime and between quarters.

Sure, and Phil Jackson also played. None of the GREAT coaches were GREAT players.

That's not saying it couldn't happen, but you see how MJ runs his organization, and you saw Magic try to run the Lakers, and Bird didn't kick ass either.

There's a lot of difference between a force and a direction. Manu is a force, Pop is a direction.

Buck Harvey doesn't agree with me though:

I can't name that many people in the history of the game that do (and the ones that come to mind were also much more into the celebrity culture than Manu ever has been) -- in other words, it's not the greatest sample size to draw conclusions from IMO. I think Pete Maravich would have made a great coach had he lived, but that's neither here nor there.

The NBA, at some point, stopped allowing the player/coach. Russell was 40 years ago.
