recently there's been talk about how we are kinda set for the next few years with everyone's fav. players tied up with good contracts.....

which makes me wonder .. how long do we have Pop??
I must admit I don;t have much knowledge about coaches and their pay/contract/deals with NBA franchises.
Do they go year to year or do they sign employment contracts??

How long do we think Pop will stay with the spurs?
Why do you think he would ever leave (as in what would have to happen)?

Pop is a great coach just like Phil Jackson.
Surround him with great players and you're bound to win.

No, Phil Jackson walks into a situation with great players already there. Pop actually takes chances and develops players.

I'd like to see Phil walk into a team like the Hawks or the Bobcats and turn them into a championship team. He's won with Jordan, Pippen, Kerr, Rodman, etc. and then with Shaq and Kobe and Co. The guy will not coach unless he's got roster full of talent. If he had to turn a team around, his legacy could be in doubt. His whole career should have an asterisk.

When Pop retires, he will be the GM of the Team, so he can be in the Team for 10 years or more

If I had to guess, I'd say that Pop would stop coaching when Timmy retires.

wasn't pop GM before he became coach?

Pop was named GM of the Spurs in 1994.

During the 1996-97 season, he fired coach Bob Hill and took over. (This was when Robinson was injured). They went 20-62 that year, worse season ever.

BUT, thanks to that, the Spurs got Tim Duncan in the draft.

From 1997-98 to 2001-02, Pop was both GM and Coach. During that period he built an incredibly strong team and won one Championship.

In 2002-03, Pop became Coach only, leaving GM duties to RC Buford.

He then won his second Championship.

I wonder what Pop will do when a big market comes calling? He doesn't seem the type worried about that kind of stuff. He seems like he would rather take a run of the mill franchise and turn it into a prestigous one rather than go straight to a prestigous franchise.

Do you think Pop gives a about the "big market"? He seems to be content winning chapionships and not being a celebrity. Plus, he can't go eat a Malik's Philly's Famous if he leaves SA.
