I know they exist, but it just seems so crazy that in 2011 these tribes still exist. Its like they are cut off from the real world, and the real world with media and the net are just a few hundred miles away.

I find it interesting how they can live without so many things that the rest of the world seems to think we need.

    For example-religion.

I remember having a conversation with someone claiming that if you haven't been saved or if god is not in your life-then you are going to .
I asked him what about someone living in the jungle who has never even heard of the bible, god, heaven, ,etc...

What if this person were to live a natural life...say 70 years...and never really hurt anyone...then died naturally...would he go to ?

His answer was something about...god would find HIM...and save him or something like that...

but it still is interesting that they live so naturally and don't really subscribe to a lot of what the rest of the planet seems to think is vital...

Interesting, I would think "uncivilized" people would be some of the most supers ious people out there. If you don't know exactly how works through science, you build causal relationships between coincidences...perhaps they might not have a God figure they idolize and make laws around, but there is a Natural Authority that HAS to exist in their collective efforts, some force they are conscious of even if they don't bow to it.

But yea, I dig the simplicity of life without all the needless technology we put our information into and call it our lives...we live through technology, not through each other and that sucks. Kids these days don't have the creative tools, they are being taught to make things easier and more convenient and reliant on technology instead of themselves. We're gonna end up pussies like in Demolition Man.

yeah the tribes deep in the amazon worship aircraft.

some tribe (i forgot where) came into contact with fighter pilots in ww2 who built a makeshift airfield nearby. to appease the natives, they gave them food and water. after they left, the natives have worshipped them and built idols of their aircraft in anticipation that someday the airplanes will return to save them. that said, the movie "Instinct" has an interesting theory on tribes.

    Agreed.

They could still worship...something...and still not subscribe to the reward/punishment...burn in for your sins thing...or maybe some do that,too...

Also...I wonder how some uncivilized tribes deal with natural disasters...like earthquakes/floods/hurricanes,etc...

do they assign responsibility to some gods? to something else they worship?

The primitive terror of a natural disaster must be pretty intense.

I'm not one for politically correct terms, but "Uncivilized" is plain wrong. They have their own social structure, which is small, but they're organized.

    Uncontacted is a better term.

Alot of these tribes are often more "civil" than most people in the modern world.... I doubt you see much rape, murder and theft within a given tribe....

Sure they may war against another tribe, but thats all just on a much smaller scale than countries that go to war.

If anything, they are non-advanced civilizations.

    indigenous is the proper term

    - in·dig·e·nous adj \in-ˈdi-jə-nəs\
    Definition of INDIGENOUS
1: produced, growing, living, or occurring naturally in a particular region or environment <indigenous plants> <the indigenous culture>

Considering the diversity of indigenous peoples, an official definition of “indigenous” has not been adopted by any UN-system body. Instead the system has developed a modern understanding of this term based on the following:
    • Self- identification as indigenous peoples at the individual level and accepted by the community as their
    member.
    • Historical continuity with pre-colonial and/or pre-settler societies
    • Strong link to territories and surrounding natural resources
    • Distinct social, economic or political systems
    • Distinct language, culture and beliefs
    • Form non-dominant groups of society
    • Resolve to maintain and reproduce their ancestral environments and systems as distinctive peoples and communities.

Indigenous peoples are the holders of unique languages, knowledge systems and beliefs and possess invaluable knowledge of practices for the sustainable management of natural resources. They have a special relation to and use of their traditional land. Their ancestral land has a fundamental importance for their collective physical and cultural survival as peoples. Indigenous peoples hold their own diverse concepts of development, based on their traditional values, visions, needs and priorities.

According to the UN the most fruitful approach is to identify, rather than define indigenous peoples. This is based on the fundamental criterion of self-identification as underlined in a number of human rights do ents.

The word "uncivilized" is subjective. Indigenous or uncontacted are both better terms. They aren't warring with their neighbors, they don't appear to be doing too much harm to the environment, surely they use language and have culture ... I'd say that in some ways they exhibit a great deal of civility.

    unsophisticated is another good term

    1. lacking experience or worldly wisdom
    2. marked by a lack of refinement or complexity an unsophisticated machine
    3. unadulterated or genuine

They are relatively simplistic people, they don't rely on technology and material possessions. They simply survive.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the Island of Tanna.

The show "Meet the Natives" was all about that, and I loved that series, it was awesome to see how happy those people are with essentially nothing compared to us. They had a "Meet the Natives: USA" where some of the men came over to the US to many different, varying places..large cities, out in the northwest in Montana area, California, all of these different types of settings.

The show was really cool and I encourage anyone to watch it if they can and are interested in anything like this. They were all mind-blown by everything..the notion of money, elevators, ..I don't know, literally everything blew their mind. Especially the food, they loved everything and ate so much. And all of the men had really unique and funny personalities, I'd roll with them any day.
