Dwight has no game outside the post.
"Dwight Howard has no postgame" argument dead? This guy is simply dominating the entire Celtics front line..
Post this up ten games from now after he's spent nine and a half games not doing what he did in the first half today.
His post game has improved, but Howard's never going to be a great post player.
While he has gotten better and he's more patient, he still isn't the force he could be. I don't see him as the best center in the league yet. What is alive is the fact he can't stay on the floor. From technical fouls to gathering up personals, he is not always on the floor in crunch time. He can't shoot foul shots, and he has no range on his jumper. He has serious holes in his game and when you compare him to Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, and Rasheed Wallace before him, he is severely limited in his game.
2 points in the second half, coming with a minute left when they're down by 14. Great post game.
he smiles alot though...
had he built a time machine yet at the ft line, he loves to take his time
More his teammates' faults than anything - didn't get many shot attempts.
BTW, he's averaging 22.4 PPG this year. You don't get those on just dunks and put backs. He's improved immensely in the post, whether people want to actually admit it or not.
Howard's post game has improved every year..it became a legit post up game last year, regardless of the false perception that everybody has towards him, especially here, where I'm one of the few that argues in his favor..
The reason there was a false perception last year, was because most people only watched him play on National TV, particularly vs. the Celtics, since it happened in the playoffs..Boston has/had the best interior 1 on 1 defenders in the NBA, and it's no secret that Howard's worst match up is against the Celtics..even more so than his post moves, his mental weakness was his biggest flaw in that series, and overall..
This year, his post game has reached a new level..his hook shot is legit, he has added multiple counter moves, and more importantly, he has added a jump shot..Howard is shooting 45% off of jump shots, which is remarkable..
2010-2011: 34% of his attempts are jump shots, shooting 45%..
2009-2010: 13% of his attempts are jump shots, shooting 25%..
2008-2009: 17% of his attempts are jump shots, shooting 32%..
He has by far the least amount of dunks of his career, this season..
Howard has regressed on the defensive end, but that obviously has very little to do with actual ability..he now has to be less aggressive, because Orlando no longer has backup C..his PFs are Bass and Anderson, 2 terrible defensive players..he has arguably the worst perimeter D in the NBA on his side..he's by far the defender with the most responsibility in the NBA..SVG has slightly changed his defensive schemes in an attempt to negate some of the weak perimeter D, but it has hurt Howard's presence defensively..
He's still too mentally weak, which is his primary weakness, but skills-wise, the only flaw he still has is his passing out of the post, which will probably be his next step as a player..by the time he joins the Lakers, he'll probably have this down..
hist post game has definitely improved. still not where one would expect it to be, but he still has plenty of time to improve. and if he can keep developing a consistent midrange, it will make things 100x easier for him
more of a highflier than a traditional low-post dominator imho.
