It was just one of those games. Spurs had a zillion opportunities to push through and couldn't make it happen. Turnovers, lack of defensive rebounds, and so, so many missed shots. Just one of those plays would have turned it around.
Also Philly historically plays the Spurs very tough on their home court. And Collins has them reenergized. They are playing much better than their record indicates.
It'll be a win tomorrow and also in New Jersey.
Size, length and athleticism always give the Spurs trouble when it's found on the perimeter.
Manu's not quite as explosive or tight with his dribble at this stage of his career, which has a team like Philly disrupt his passing and finishing ability. And Tony finds a lot of the same impediments - they can stay in front of him by utilizing their speed and/or the cushion their length affords them to close out and contest his jumper. The longer wings also seem to make a better challenge at the rim than the prototypical big usually can, usually riding Parker or Ginobili on the drive and not allowing them to set up the finish as well with a teardrop or finger roll.
When a team has that type of speed, length and athleticism to clog the interior, usually having 4 to 5 guys with at least a foot in the paint, it puts an extreme amount of pressure on you to hit your jumper. And if the jumper isn't there and you're forced to cram it in the paint, that's when turnovers come about - which inevitably fuels their transition game.

The image of our 4th quarter offensive sets burned into my retina: Tony or TP dribbling around too much, trying to take ball in the lane only to see 4 Sixers converge in a tight zone. Meanwhile, the other Spurs stand around like statues on the perimeter.
OK, we've got a great record, but would it hurt to have a little bit more movement on O? I think this is a long term issue for us. Lack of balance in general. Everything's great when the jumpers are falling, but when they're not...
I guess for some our record settles this issue, but I've noticed that those wonderful spread-the-floor guys have a tendency to shrivel up in the postseason. More balance would be a nice insurance policy.

As I correctly predicted in the Rodeo Road Trip prediction thread, the 76ers posed the biggest problem for the Spurs. BUT, the Spurs actually managed to have more control of them defensively, but were completely lost on the offensive side. They just weren't aggressive enough, but I suspect it has more to do with it being a B2B (they're not gonna work themselves to death for baskets if they aren't falling) than the 76ers putting on their usual compe ive performances against the Spurs. I hate seeing them on the schedule.
Last night the Spurs could not scored with a who was giving it away for free. I don't see that happening again this season.

So what is they lose to a non-contender in the east. Imagine that it's hard to put 100% into a game like that when one is already tired with the traveling and looking at 4 games in 5 days.

the league picks certain games to help the local team win a game that will make people in that town "hopeful" for next season.....they usually will do this with teams in big markets that are sitting around .500.
Aside from being the usual thorn in the Spurs side , Philly has won 8 of their last 11 and are playing well and hard right now.+1. If only Philly played like that against everyone though and not only the Spurs...
