being flipped and "coasting" through the regular season (LOL LAKERS!!! their ing troll fans deserve it), it makes me wonder if the Spurs are in fact coasting and haven't flipped the switch yet. If they indeed have an extra gear or two that they are saving for the playoffs, what would your reaction be? How do you think the extra gear will affect the statistics in each game?

I don't think there's a switch. Humans aren't built that way, even professional athletes. The more realistic claim would be that during the playoffs, the adrenalin and desperation begin to have an effect. Instead of just diving for a loose ball, there's diving, biting, scratching, kicking, punching and whatever else to gain/regain the possession. Every possession just has more importance attached to it and the Spurs are one of the best in the league when it comes to harnessing and focusing that extra motivation.

I don't think we really have an extra switch other than playing our big 3 more in the playoffs which will make us a better defensive team.

Looking at the current playoff teams in the West, the only team I see that could be doing better than they are is the Lakers. Dallas is doing as good as they can be considering injuries. Without those, I think Dallas is neck and neck with us. Denver and Utah are both struggling for obvious reasons not related to slumps. OKC is pretty much overachieving right now, but that outlook will change as they go along. Portland is not going anywhere, but goddamn they are ballin' with all those injuries to key players (what's new?). New Orleans just doesn't have the talent to get much further.

So, if LA finds pace and chemistry (hard to tell) they have a good chance at doing great. Otherwise it's Dallas and SA in the WCF and it's anyone's game.

It seems like Spurs have a in-game switch where they suddenly ramp up the D and get the W. As for the post season, they have to keep that switch on for more than 1 quarter.
