What happened to Rocketman? He was great. Bear = Pedo = young Asian fetish ? Weird, regardless.
i mean what the ? A BEAR? what does that have to do with rockets??
i mean it seems like bears are the default option for mascot for teams that apparently dont know how to depict their team name correctly

Because a rocket would look like a big . The ets. I can hear it now.
Nah it's about the name "clutch" as in "clutch city". When you think of clutches, pressure plates, throwout bearings... all that, bears come to mind.
Clutch has been around for a while now, we used to have turbo
But some kid got hurt doing a halftime stunt with turbo, and I think thats why they went primarily with the bear
Because our logo used to look like this. Expand that Rocketship and you have
Expand that Rockets logo for a mascot and you'd have...
Yeah, that'd go over real well with the little kids. lol
What the is the Lakers' mascot? I can't remember ever seeing it...
I drought it more like this.

Holy , you had a Power Ranger for a mascot.
As far as mascots go...why the is the Spurs mascot a Coyote?
![]()
Dude don't with Clutch. there are plenty of mascots that don't make sense. Phoenix Gorilla? wtf does that have to do with the sun? What about the Philly Phanatic? What the is he?
![]()
Cause usually when a Cowboy uses his spur on a horse its to Chase or get away from a coyote
That or coyotes bring Mexicans from across el river.
The Phanatic has since then been replaced for el Hombre Verde.
it should be elton john the rocket man
The Coyote has been the Spurs mascot since 1983.
When the idea of a mascot was pitched to the powers that be; they wanted an armadillo or a cowboy with a big moustache.
They found the guy that they wanted to give the job to, Tim Derk. Being originally from Chicago (but living in San Antonio at the time), he wasn't too familiar with an armadillo and the cowboy figure was too much like the Dallas Cowboys mascot.
Tim loved the Wile E Coyote as a kid. Tim's brother-in-law was a Vice President at Warner Brothers so Tim knew he could work out any trademark issues.
Thus Tim pitched the Coyote, wily, quick and a South Texas mainstay as the Mascot. The powers that be loved it and there you have it.
Tim was the Spurs Coyote from 1983 to 2003. During that time; he was voted the 'Most Valuable Varmint' by the other NBA mascots 13 times. The Spurs hosted the All Star game in 1996 and the Coyote won the Mascot Slam Dunk Contest.
In 2003, Tim suffered a massive, debilitating stroke. For the next several games, NBA mascots across the league wore armbands with "TD" (Tim Derk) written on the armbands as a show of support.
The guy who is now the 'official' Coyote is only the second guy to hold the 'job'. Tim is greatly recovered from his stroke and assists the new Coyote.
^ Plus isn't the official bird of San Antonio a roadrunner? It made too much sense for it to be a coyote. And a coyote is much more likely to be found in San Antonio than a bear in Houston

The Rockets suck enough already without having an old, fat sexual man being wheeled around the court saying, in his British voice.. "Fack you, I'm a rocket man"
