I love Tony but he has yet to be a "dollar player"
Good for 4 quarters.![]()
Yea, he started off slow, but he saved us in the 3rd quarter. He's a frustrating kid, but he's stepping up now. Let's go Spurs!

Waiting for AHF to show his face!
Tony gets his props in two weeks. Way to rebound tonight after an abysmal first half though kid.
You'll get 0 apologies, and about 20 excuses pointing out the bad parts--such as his sucky start, without giving him props for the good parts.
apologize? no, I think he deserve better than this, congrats ...
TP needs to step it up if we are to win it all. He had a great 3Q, but 8-21 and only two assists is not enough.
Manu didn't have a great game either.
TD was Da Man of Da nite!
Beno showed him how to make btb threes!

I want my props for knowing what pop was doing and knowing that parker would step up...
AHF...![]()
how many points did Parker have???TP needs to step it up if we are to win it all. He had a great 3Q, but 8-21 and only two assists is not enough.

Thanks good night.
The haters will always hate.
he finally made them pay for leaving him open
he was not extraordinary but he get out of his funck alone. he steped up contrary to previous year. he is trully getting better. and hudrih is finall showing since two games. that is solid man solid!
I'm not hating, you ing asshole.
IMO he did not have a great game. I gave him props for the 3Q, where he played the lights out. But only 2 assists? You think that is good for a PG? There were many plays were he has dribbling the ball for way too much time and he made poor plays. If we would have lost, people would be blaming him.
You are pointing out how many points he scored. 18 pts on 21 shots. That's not good either.
Manu had one more point than TP and he still had a mediocre game, IMO (as I pointed out in my previous post).
You are such and idiot.
Agreed. I give him huge props for that. His first half was horrible, shooting poorly from the perimiter. But the guy has cojones! He continued shooting and made crucial shots in the 3rd. Q.
These apoligize threads are so re ed. Why should anyone apoligize for critizing a player when said player is playing like utter crap? I think Tony Parker is excellent when he's on and making smart moves. But this doesn't make me want to retroactively apoligize for critizing him for disappearing.
Damn dude, calm down. This thread was made in jest.I never said you couldn't criticize a guy for playing like crap because I was cussing him out in the 1st half for stinking up the place but we lose this game without his play in the 3rd and decisive quarter when we surged to take the lead. We won, we advanced to the finals, and he deserves props. He's still inconsistent but you can tell he's steadily improving.
If parker ever develops a jumpshot, the Spurs will be next to unbeatable. For a short stretch, Parker was actually the Suns best player--the way he was clanking shots left and right.
The 8 straight points Tony made in 50 seconds in the third were huge.
This was far from Tony's best game but he hung in there. He made some bad decisions with the ball in the 4th that helped the Suns to get within 3 points. Pop put the ball in Manu's hands to enter the offense the last 4-5 minutes (thank you Pop). That seemed to settle the Spurs and then Tony was able to focus on bothering Nash and running and cutting. He even managed to get open on the screen/roll missed switch for the easy lay-in.
I feel bad for stating that Parker was playing like a re in the first half. he made up for it in the third. But what's still disturbing is that he is not playing as smart as he should. Perhaps the brilliance of nash just accentuates Parker's shortcomings. I just hope he can play better because Billups is next.
Why do people always harp on the assists. This system is not made for a PG or any one player to have huge assist numbers. So get over the assist numbers. He was huge defense wise on Nash tonight.
When Tony gets going its scary for our oppenents because you know Manu and Tim do other things to get in the game and are even more consistent(at this point) than Tony. Think to Games 1 and 2 where Tony shot the best % of our Triumphant 3.
Somebody said that the measure of a PG was the number of assists per game. But who? Are assists more important than points? Maybe it's time to stop playing by the rules of sportscasters, who are - sad to say - only hangers on. They do their best to out-talk their fellow sportcasters. They dredge up silly and unimportant pieces of information in the middle of a game to show each other how much they know.
But, who's playing the game? They're not!
Tony is not a pure point guard ala Stockton, Nash, etc so I don't think you can measure his effectiveness based on assists. He's a scoring point guard which has already been acknowledged by Pop. His career average in assists is what, 5-6 per game? Yea, I agree it wasn't his best game but when we had to win just 1 more to get to the finals, it was good enough.![]()
Hey, it isn't over yet.
We still need to win a championship. Eat your Wheaties and get ready for Billups or Jones.
i love Tony playing alongside Tim Duncan. the Jeff & Mutt.
but please...........
play some consistent game, Kid! Not just after halftime Pops' chit chat in the locker room.
And you'll go places. Believe me.
anyway, thank you for that back-to-back 3 pointers in the 3rd. We got the W.
The Spurs run several Motion offensive sets, including some Flex. These sets are not really PG-centric. Another reason why TP won't have high assist numbers is that if more than one dribble is used to score, the pass prior to the multiple dribbles no longer is an assist (except in rare cases). Feeding Tim in the post and letting him dribble and use his footwork doesn't lend itself to an assist on the entry pass. It more than likely creates an assist for Tim or a perimeter player out of that post move, as the ball is cycled to the open man.
The Spurs had the best assist +/- differential in the league, defensively limiting the other team's assists (15 or 16), while putting up 22-23 assists per game themselves.
The Spurs share the ball and are the best passing Spurs team to date.
