Cause if you do I need some recommendations for what wine goes good with steak. I heard here and there certain wines go good with steak. Cooking dinner as a surprise for my dad who is a huge steak man(me not so much) So I like to think i can cook one. Open grill ribeye or sirloin i'm thinking are most popular but not set on it.

What I really need help on is the wine. I don't drink wine and he does and I dont want to seem like some one who clueless about good wine

So anyone know a good wine? Oh and i'm not looking to break my bank account on a bottle of wine. So a degree of price ranges would be lovely. Also one I don't have to hunt to far to get.. local Heb or liquor store please

    trolling to a minimum k

Why don't you ask your mom what kind of wine your dad likes with steak? Apologies in advance of that's not an option.

Generally speaking a red wine like a merlot, syrah, or cabernet sauvignon goes well with steak, but since I'm not a red wine type, can't make any brand recommendations.

I don't drink a lot of wine, but when I do, Little Penguin Merlot/Cabernet, merlot is sweeter. Or Da Vinci Chianti.

Go talk to a sommelier at central market or a wine store and they'll give you good recomandations for your price.

I second the wine store recommendation or World Market. A Cabernet Sauvignon would probably work well.

I drink bloody Marys. I like FishEye red wine. It has a dry plum taste to it.

Ditto on the store recommendation. If you don't feel like talking to anyone at the store, a South American malbec would be good. Argentina makes great ones, you get great bang for your buck, and they pair really well with steak. The Argentinians eat a lot of beef; they know what they're doing.

Good call Jekka...I'm really into the Malbecs recently...I bought a few cases of 2006 Telteca Anta Reserve that were absolutely spectacular for the price. Like mid $13 and I've had reds 5 times that price that couldn't match up in a taste test.

Any high quality meal should be served with an appropriate wine.

Malbecs are my favorites and have been for some time. Just love some good South American Malbecs.

This time next year I should have some cosmiccowboy wine ready to sample. I've got about 60 vines that should be bearing this year. It will probably suck but I'm looking forward to trying.

I like most red wines in general. Now that I think about it...there are few wines I've tried and haven't enjoyed. (excluding cheap ass Franzia bagged wine, and the like)

Whoever said Cakebread or Caymus nailed it. Malbecs from South America are fantastic as well, especially for the price.

Texas actually has some great wines but you can't find any of them in stores so stay away from Texas wine, Especially Llano. I don't know how people drink that trash.

It really depends on you though. I have a friend who only drink sauvignon blanc with steak and there is nothing wrong with that. I prefer Johnny Black on the rocks with mine.
