If the recovery par ion was damaged by malware or bad sectors, or the MBR has been corrupted, it can cause recovery to fail.
Got a recovery DVD?
hey fellas i'm trying to reformat my mom's laptop to factory settings and did through
F8 during bootup->REPAIR COMPUTER->FACTORY SETTINGS
but when i select to repair computer, it loads a bit then the laptop automatically shuts off.
i've done factory reset on my own PC plenty of times, what's wrong here??

nvm i figured out the problem.. now another problem...LOL
i get into the recovery options and there's no factory reset option!
what the ?
so i was looking around google, and it says toshiba laptops don't have a factory reset option, you are only able to do so from recovery CDs, i'm gonna assume the laptop came with some and that my mom didn't throw them away![]()
You should still be able to format the computer and download drivers from Toshiba's website.
repair is not reformat. just zero out all the par ions using something like killdisk and then reformat. the free version takes a little longer but it's a sure way to get rid of the toshiba crap.
post pics of mom and we could help
why not just format the bas and fresh install, at least you get rid of the crap that came bundled with the laptop
