Anybody know why they were deployed? I can think of exactly 0 times I've seen them in SA airspace.

Just flew straight over my damn house. 3 of them. The first one used his burners...

My neighbor was ex-military and was saying it's illegal for them to do what they did, but it's the government so it doesn't really matter.. Said they could be refueling at the airport but that there's definitely something going on.

    They were all F-15s.

Probably no coincidence that we started a war today.

reading reports (twitter) of Wisconsin, Nevada and Texas spotting f-15's in the sky.

    AirWars7
Unconfirmed: US based F-15's on it's way to Sicily. Refuelled by KC-135's with callsign Ethyl10-16??
    Prairie_Patriot
@RachaelJ83 creepy....all day they've been buzzing around in circles 2 or 3 at a time!
    dblloyd74656

Not illegal to use afterburners. They're probably just here to fuel up; could be spares for broke jets pulling Noble Eagle detail for the prez. ... That is, if they were C models.

    This is pretty interesting.

AJE: Reporter in Sigonella: refueling observed of Danish, Spanish and Canadian planes. Speculates this is Phase 2 in preparation. #Libya

Maybe they're just relocating assets for the war. Interesting stuff. Still don't know why they'd have to fly so low and use afterburners.

And aren't there regulations as far as how low you can fly over cities?

Do you live close to the airport?

And Sigonella is probably just one of the bases where the individual units could set up shop. I highly doubt the US would get involved in the air war, and if they did, they wouldn't send all the way from bloody England when Aviano is right friggin there.

Hah, sorry. Whenever the president goes anywhere away from an air base, he usually has a few jets tag along to play babysitter. Since there's nothing but old ass jets in our inventory, they tend to break. A lot.

And just how low were they?

lol i know that they wont get in trouble.. just in 15+ years i've never seen that happen so I'm curious as to why

Commercial jets fly over every day where I'm at but not even close to as low as these were (obviously) and I've just never seen it so I wanted to know what's going on.

What were you saying about broke jets and what-not? No idea what any of that lingo meant

I'm not an expert, but I'd say 700-1000ft. 1000 is the maximum.

The president is in Brazil.. so I don't know if that's the case or not.

Ah, that's just a normal take off and they always use afterburners. Very few times they won't but 99% of the time they're in full burn.

Yeah, I heard that. I was supposed to be on a temporary deployment to follow Bush around whenever he went to S America a couple years back....but the er canceled it and I missed out.

Pistons < Spurs: I looked that post up on the internet and the kid that posted it looked to be about 15 years old. There's 3 squadrons of 15's at Lakenheath that fly every damn day, how the could he know where they're goin?

Put it this way: last time I saw jets fly that low was on graduation day at the Naval Academy when the Blue Angels did a show.

I could clearly see the missile array on the first, the eagle with a black background on the vertical stabilizer on the second, and the third jet (w/ afterburners) set off every car alarm in the neighborhood.

Unless they were drunk, there's no way they'd land in afterburner. There's better ways to up your career and the jet, lol.

I understand your point .... but there were many people posting similar things ... and in different languages. Twitter's not always the best source, but I figured I'd post it here anyways. Take it for what it's worth!

Hmmmmmm, if that's where they were goin, it could be to be as a deterrent in case Ghidaffi makes a suicide dash with some jets to attack Europe. I guess.

Painted vertical stab? The only bases that paint their verticle stabs are ANG s. Those re s can't do right.
