Novak has shown himself ready to contribute. Splitter continues to rank as one of the best rookies, when calibrated to factor in per-minutes-played stats. Bonner is the one who has been in the playoffs with Pop and the Spurs hte most and knows the system the best. So who should get the minutes come playoff time, if you got to be the coach and decide such things?

Why does Splitter keep getting lumped in with Novak?

    Defense >>>>> all.

If Splitter doesn't get the most minutes then they have no shot at reaching the NBA Finals. None.

Let's not develop Splitter all year and then rely on him in the playoffs. Sounds like solid plan.

This should really just be a Splitter/Bonner question. Any minutes for Novak would be coming at the expense of Bonner.

I see these three as all filling similar roles and therefore competing with each other for minutes. They're basically our three candidates for #4 big man behind Duncan, Dice, and Blair. They all shoot the ball well and they all need to play defense and rebound the ball. Who does those things the best will determine who gets the most minutes.

I suspect that even if Novak shines the next couple weeks while he gets some minutes, he will flop in the playoffs because most rookies do when they first get there. Hard to say whether the same will be true for Splitter, who has more high level compe ion experience. I also suspect that the minutes are Bonner's to lose, but that doesn't mean he won't lose them if he doesn't perform well.

Novak's not a rookie. He's played in the playoffs with the Rockets in 07. Been in the NBA for 5 years.

splitter offers defense and a post game.

bonner and novak... well we know what they are good/bad at.

i think splitter needs the minutes and the other two could battle it out depending on who's running hot. However, neither bonner or novak should be on the court at the same time as blair imo

how could you possibly consider splitter a better option than bonner? or novak a better option than splitter?

hey springtime spurs fans! good to see you! where have you been all year?
Because in certain situations he's a much better option than Bonner.

    Do you disagree?

even if splitter is a better low post defender, doesn't mean he should ever play instead of bonner
What if the situation calls for a good low post defender?

    then put in mcdyess
We aren't choosing between McDyess and Splitter. We're choosing between Splitter and Bonner.

and that's not to mean that bonner is great, just that splitter sucks
If Splitter sucks but yet he's a better low post defender than Bonner, then what does that say about Bonner?
