TAMPA — Police arrested a Lowry Park Zoo volunteer Tuesday afternoon who is accused of fondling a 9-year-old visitor in the men's room.
Cameron James Spurback, 21, of Tampa has no criminal history. The zoo did a background check on him before he began his volunteer position preparing food for the animals, said Laura McElroy, a spokeswoman for the Tampa Police Department.
Spurback, who police said has a disfiguring condition, went to the restroom at the end of his shift about 2:15 p.m., approached a 9-year-old boy in the restroom, pulled down the boy's pants and fondled him, authorities said. The boy told authorities Spurback then pulled down his own pants and fondled himself.
The child ran and told his parents what had happened. They flagged down security. Security officers kept Spurback in the restroom until Tampa police arrived.
Spurback was charged with lewd and lascivious exhibition and lewd and lascivious molestation. Zoo CEO Craig Pugh released a statement Tuesday evening about the park's zero-tolerance policy for illegal activity. "We have a duty to ensure the safety of our guests, our employees and other volunteers, and we take that responsibility very seriously," he said. Spurback was dismissed from the volunteer position.

Florida sounds like they have some strangely led laws, or maybe they are a specific type of charge designed to accomadate people that, in addition to having physical handicaps, also have mental handicaps? I have no idea.
I need more information on this case before I form an opinion or make a satirical comment. The pathology of the crime, along with the timing, is a little odd to me.
