Well, at the very least we upset the Iran/Iraq balance. If Iran did decide to sweep into Iraq we wouldn't have the ability to stop them.
I very simply said that Iran is going to takeover Iraq, and if that’s going to happen, we should just stay there and take the oil. They want the oil, and why should we? We de-neutered Iraq, Iran is going to walk in, take it over, take over the second largest oil fields in the world. That’s going to happen. That would mean that all of those soldiers that have died and been wounded and everything else would have died in vain– and I don’t want that to happen. I want their parents and their families to be proud.

Saddam was a perfect foil against Iran.
That's why St Ronnie's Repugs in the 80s were selling Saddam all kinds of stuff and support.
Now, WE have stay in Iraq forever and be the foil ourselves, blowing money and lives in Iraq rather than sucking money out of it.
I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to keep the oil for ourselves, even if it's not legally possible. Thank god for Halliburton, they've been paying their taxes right? That should cover some of the cost of this war, the rest of us American tax payers are cool with picking up the remainder as OUR part of the shared sacrifice with our military veterans for removing a brutal dictator that would rather gas his own people than gas Iran like a good US-ally.
At least SB believes the lies that busting in Iraq was to remove Saddam.
oops, it was for WMD, according to Powell at UN.
At least, he or she admits the lie that invading Iraq was for oil. The only sacrifice was the US/UK oilcos and the Repugs sacrificing 5000+ US troops and $3T treasury to enrich those oilcos. Private gain, public risk/cost, as always in UCA.
A collection of thougts on the matter:
Oddly enough, that would put us in the same camp as the sunni-led Al Qaeda in resisting such a move.
We still have 50,000 troops in country, plus a *few* contractors.
Even without that, our security umbrella if only in the form of cruise missiles would be sufficient.
A complete embargo on gasoline shipments to the country would probably also be a rather effective deterrant.
All in all, extremely unlikely. Were it to happen though, it would comprimise a VERY large % of world oil supplies. I would not be surprised that $200-$300 dollar a barrel oil or *more* would be the result.
