Not certain if this has ever been asked here. Everyone knows the Spurs won the 1997 draft lottery (Or Tim Duncan sweepstakes) from third best chance behind the Vancouver Grizzlies and Boston Celtics. Both the latter two teams could have selected Kobe Bryant in 1996, settling instead on Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Antoine Walker, respectively. Those two players did ok their rookie seasons, but their teams still floundered in 1996-97 so probably would have remained in the Duncan sweepstakes. Hard to believe Kobe could have made a difference as a rookie and bettered his team's records.
So, if Tim and Kobe play and stay together, how many les do they win? They would still be in the run today, right? Figure Shaq is still headed to Lakers, do they still get a threepeat since Shaq was the reason? Does Shaq stay in LA and maybe the Lakers win a few more? Figure Spurs still get Ginobili and Parker, can they win any championships? Do the Grizzlies stay n Vancouver? Figure Boston doesn't get Pierce and Grizzlies don't get Gasol.
They would win at least 4 championships imo but no one can really know or give great takes on why they would win "x" amount of championships. There are just too many variables that would change it.
