During our wait for the start of the 2005 NBA Finals, I feel that it is quite appropriate that SpursTalk.com honor the fans of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Portland Trailblazers who frequent this forum by taking a look ahead at the upcoming NBA draft.
The Spurs, as of now, currently hold only one pick in the draft (held at Madison Square Garden on June 30th), their first round selection (#28 overall). Your guess is as good as mine with regards to what they ultimately will do with it. While history is on the side of them trading out of the first round to avoid the guaranteed contract, they have not had a problem with drafting and bringing in that player immediately (ie Udrih).
A brief glance at the draft board shows a few teams with multiple second round picks. Such teams might be potential draft day trading partners for the Spurs. Why not pick up the rights to a couple more international prospects and put them with the rest?
In any event, it would be nice if the Spurs can turn their pick into multiple prospects to make up for the couple of draft picks they foolishly gave away in the Malik Rose trade.
The Spurs will probably draft that first round pick unless they see a foreigner that they really like. Of course the Spurs won't say who they like but I did read in an another article that Buford has his whole board in his office with a bunch of foreign young players. So unless they like someone they will draft if not they will trade and get some rights to some other foreign players. One thing is for sure though. If they do get someone it will be a foreign player.

Granted, the Spurs may spot a player who they would like to trade up for, but it seems like they would be more inclined to trade out of the 1st round, especially with a somewhat full roster and ever present payroll concerns. Any of the above could make for a potential draft day trading partner...

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could land Hakim Warrick, he could be Bowen's understudy, but odds are that he will go high in the draft.
is Salim Stoudemire gonna fall to the 2nd round? I know he's not great, but the guy is explosive and has a nice shot.
I think the Blazers will draft Gerald Green.
Does anyone know the answer to these questions:
1.If a team drafts a Euro with their first round choice and the player doesn't come over and play, does the team still get charged a first round salary against the cap?
2. Or does the salary charged only accrue when and if the player comes over, is signed and plays?
3.And if it takes a few years before the player comes over, is the charge against the cap the first round of the year he is drafted?
If there's no charge for a Euro who doesn't come over, it's clear why the Spurs have been using their draft choices on them. It saves them big bucks when they don't have an interest in a first round American player at 28th or lower pick.
That's my thinking. There are probably one or two players they'd probably like at #28, but if they aren't available the draft is pretty deep in prospects with that fabled quality: "upside." U are right.As I told before he is my favourite for months,could be a great defender and very athletic as well,so we should take him.

If Turiaf is there at 28... it's mighty tempting to keep that pick.
you cant store him away overseas though, therefore Luka is the best available pick IMO.

I say we trade up!!! give a deal to sum deal with brown and sum other scrubs on teh team to move up..
Who knows this year. Some seem to think we'll go for a college kid, others seem to think we'll go for another Euro....
