Avery Johnson will probably be dismissed soon enough. Or how about Mouse as coach?

Possibly more of Pop's "corporate knowledge" leaving the building.

Coach Bud on the Warriors shortlist.

It's one and done for Keith Smart as Golden State Warriors head coach
    By Marcus Thompson II
    San Jose Mercury News

...Riley said the Warriors haven't contacted any potential candidates and don't have a timetable for hiring a new coach, though he said it wouldn't hurt to have one by the NBA draft, which is June 23.

He declined to reveal whom the Warriors have on their shortlist, but multiple sources -- from the team and in NBA circles -- said they believe former Cleveland coach Mike Brown and assistant coaches Dwane Casey of Dallas, Mike Budenholzer of San Antonio and Lawrence Frank of Boston are on that list. Casey and Frank are former NBA head coaches.

I think the Spurs should start courting The Rifleman.

...“I’d prefer not to say anything and just keep my name out of it as much as possible,” Budenholzer said of the speculation that he will be a candidate for head coaching jobs.

“It’s hard to explain. I’m very flattered and it’s something I want to do someday, but for right now, I’ve decided the best thing for me and my family is to stay in San Antonio.

“That could change at some time, but for the foreseeable future that’s how I feel, and that’s how I’ve felt for the last little while.”

I hope he's never the Spurs head coach, at least not without first having spent time somewhere else.

I just don't want a coach who has only known one single way, the Pop way. He went from Pop's division III school Pomona-Pitzer as a player, to one year of coaching euro-women's basketball, to Pop and the Spurs.

Pop had several mentors, from Egan to Larry Brown to Nellie to get some variety. Budenholzer has only known the teat of Pop.

Besides, the notion of a designated heir is one I find distasteful.
