Trying to come up with reasons for TRUE altruism based on natural selection is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

That's kinda the point of the one going against kin/natural selection. He's saying altruism exists because it helps group survivability, regardless of their genetic familiarity.

And while it might prove futile, it's fun trying to determine the reasons for altruism, and whether or not "true altruism" even exists. (Since being altruistic can be considered a form of self-fulfillment if one feels positively about it.)
