Really an amazing group of musicians and nice guys to boot. They often gig around Austin sans horns as the Hi-Defs playing Mingo songs as well as covers.
I just heard about and got turned onto this band today...they're good.

Yep, I have been singing their praises since 2001 when they used to come to San Antonio 3 times a month. Great music, great band, phenomenal stage presence and live performances. Definitely, if you haven't seen or heard them, you should make a concerted effort.
They are a band that got started in Ft. Worth and for a long time was a local Texas band. They have won best funk band in Texas several years (don't know if they still enter). They are a mix of funk, soul, new orleans jazz, with a dash of motown. They are an 8 piece band with a 3 person horn section and are just a really good band to go see.
They're the Hi-Defs? That's cool -- didn't know that.
Here's a couple of live sets from them:
Kennedy Center 8/16/2010
Muscle Shoals radio show 4/14/2011 -- unfortunately this one's quality got butchered in the archive process. The live webcast was much better.

If you're in Austin, some members of Mingo are developing side projects at One-2-One bar's new location on South Lamar. I'm watching Rog and Dane play right now and Chip and Dane play in a full band called 1Up on Wednesdays that is really impressive.
