Halftime Thoughts: Spurs @ Grizzlies - Game 6

-Tim Duncan is doing good work on the boards but the Spurs need him to be more than a Will Perdue clone to win this game. At the very least, he needs to hit his chip shots around the basket. I want to see some season-on-the-line fire in the second half.

-First of all, Manu Ginobili needs to make crisp passes. It seems like every pass he throws is being deflected. No slow passes to the weakside -- the Grizzlies are too quick and will get a hand on it. And besides, Ginobili needs to look for more shots. Four attempts from the field and none from the line won't cut it. Defensively, stay active but avoid further foul trouble.

-Tony Parker is taking care of the ball, which is vital. On defense, he's pressuring but he's struggling once his man moves inside the three-point line. More toughness needed. Offensively, he's dribbling too much at times and isn't in that great of a rhythm. Parker either needs to look for his shot more or get the ball moving. He can't hold it.

-Richard Jefferson is a waste of space. Just stop. Stop.

-I like Antonio McDyess' intangibles so far in terms of hustling and playing with physicality. However, he's going to have to mix in some tangibles. A rebound would be nice. So would a jumper or two.

-George Hill is making mental mistakes by the bushel but at least he's somewhat aggressive. Keep driving it to the hoop but also don't be afraid to shoot. Defensively, the Spurs need him to be as active as ever.

-Gary Neal is only 2-for-8 but I've liked all of his shots. If he can get hot in the second half, he can REALLY help. The Spurs need halfcourt offense and he can supply it ... in theory, at least.

-Tiago Splitter did a lot of good and a lot of bad. Thankfully, the good outweighed the bad. If he can play a little tougher in the final two quarters, I don't see a reason why he shouldn't play 15 or so minutes in the second half.

-WTF? Matt Bonner's nine points lead the team in scoring. I would have bet my life against Bonner leading the team in scoring at halftime of a road elimination game. But give him props. If he replicates this in the second half, we all owe him an apology. If he sucks, let the customary post-game Bonner Threads flow.
