One thing I always loved about going to Middle School and HS in Texas was that I could be in band, play a ton of video/computer games and have a ton of nerdy friends. And because of the fact that a lot of basketball & football players are also in band/choir/drama classes people could pretty easily not worry about being picked on about doing different .
Some days I'd get home and play counter-strike and starcraft with a group of friends, the next I'd be out at the Judson basketball courts playing pickup games for hours.
When I moved to Arizona for my last 2 years of HS people were shocked to find out I was in band and even more shocked that I excelled at it. I was a fairly popular person out here and it was because I learned how to get along with the jocks, the geeks, the band nerds, and everyone else in TX. In AZ it was like a ing 80's movie where everyone is so hung up on what labels to give to people and who you should and shouldn't hang out with it was really sad and annoying.
