The financial sector always has the power.
In the last 30 years, their power has increased tremendously, while political power was drained from citizens.
Great BBC do entary about rise of individualism and belief that IT would create a fundamental change in society, but finally we all just got screwed as power passed form political to financial sphere.
Perhaps it all fits together a bit too nicely, and I don't like the whole blame Ayn Rand part (although it makes a great TV I guess), but some ideas are really interesting for example comparison of 97 IMF Asian bailouts with the most recent series of rescues for financial juggernauts.
