    Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Draws Will Go To “Sudden Death” Round

    The next round of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament is set to continue this weekend in Texas with bouts featuring Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers.

    Two Grand Prix tournament bouts have already taken place, with Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva and Sergei Kharitonov moving into the semi-finals.

    This weekend a new rule will be implemented by the promotion to decide a winner for all tournament bouts for any bouts which are scored a draw at the end of three rounds. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker explained to MMAFighting.com that a new rule would “determine who advances or who wins based on the fighter’s overall performance in the fight.”

    Before the change the scores from a fourth judge would determine the winner. Now all draws will go to a fourth “sudden death” round to determine a winner for the GP tournament.

    This weekends Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum event is set to take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The main card is set to air on Showtime, while the preliminary card is scheduled to air live on HDNet.
