Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25KOs) announced to his 1.2 million followers on Twitter that he plans to return on September 17th to challenge the new WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22KOs) of California. Ortiz, who moved up from junior welterweight, won the le in April with an impressive twelve round decision over previously undefeated Andre Berto.
The fight between Ortiz and Mayweather had been rumored for weeks, although both camps continued to deny the negotiations. Mayweather has not fought since last May's dominating decision win over "Sugar" Shane Mosley. Mayweather-Ortiz is a sure fight to land on HBO pay-per-view, and Las Vegas is the likely location to host - although Dallas, Texas is another rumored location.
Mayweather's main rival, Manny Pacquiao, defends his WBO welterweight le against Juan Manuel Marquez in a trilogy bout on November 12.
"My fans have been waiting long enough. Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz. Sept-17 2011 for the WBC World Championship," Mayweather wrote on his Twitter page.

Sons, this is a good fight. At least he's fighting someone in their prime. Not 40 year old fighters coming off of losses like pacquiao.
Mayweather fighting a dangerous Prime Welterweight compared to Pac who is fighting a 39 year old lightweight making him move up to welterweight (2 weight divisions).. He fought a 40 year old Mosley coming of a loss and a draw to ing sergio mora and before that he fought Margarito coming off a loss

Other then Berto, who has Ortiz fought to deserve an opponent like pacquiao? Also, didnt your boy Floyd make Marquez move up to 147 too? Didnt your boy Floyd also fight that 39 yr old Mosely?
I understand your point, but dont try to be comparing Mayweather with Pacquaio in terms of choosing opponents cuz you'll lose that battle.
First of all Mayweather isn't my boy, didn't i say i was rooting for Victor? I ain't a mayweather or pacquiao fan. I'm a boxing fan. I've on both and have given props to both. Both these s are cherry pickers don't even try and twist it. There is no losing battle to be had. Floyd fought Mosley who was coming off a KO win vs Margarito (and this was a Margarito in his prime coming off the beat down he gave cotto). Pacquiao fought a Mosley who was coming of a loss to mayweather and then a draw vs a scrub in Sergio Mora. You don't see a difference? And yes Mayweather also made marquez come up in weight and i on him for that as well, look it up.
What did Mosley do to deserve a shot against Pacquiao? Get ing owned by Mayweather, and then embarrassed by Sergio Mora?
lol...so Pacquiao fights Mosely and suddenly it eliminates any work he did before that. Believe me, everyone didnt want to see pac vs mosely, but at the time, who was he gonna fight? Would you have been happy with pac fighting a "Pre-Berto" Ortiz?

Anyways it is good that he's back, really can't expect someone coming of a 16 month lay off to take on Pac as his first fight back.. Winner of this fight should/better fight Pacquiao.

even ali, leonard, holmes, marciano, robinson etc. had fights against bums or fighters past their prime.

It's pretty funny that I made this thread to discuss the match up and all you get is pac s/casual fans that don't even watch boxing derail this . I didn't bring up pac in this thread yall did.

And i just compared Mosley, you're telling me that the Mosley coming off of a loss (an embarrassing loss i might add) and a draw to sergio ing mora that pac faced is a better Mosley than the one that just came off a KO win over Margarito? The same Margarito that was coming off his biggest win in his career over Cotto?

I'm a neutral 'cause I'm a new boxing fan but I've been doing a lot of research (watching every fight I find on TV, watching old ones on line, and surfing boxing forums) and I must say pac s are more irritating than flomos, imho.
