chuck daly starting 5 pistons
Who are your picks for the top 5 dirtiest players to ever play in the NBA and why?
Besides Karl Malone everyone looks like a saint. Plus he's a pedophile, which is pretty dirty.
I'll go ahead and put Bruce "Lee" Bowen out there.
in all seriousness:
1. Malone
2. KG
3. Kobe
4. Artest
5. Matt Barnes
Hard to say. What we would view as dirty today would be acceptable in the 80s and earlier.
Its well known that Gasol never showers, he wins this hands down.
I'll take a stab at it in no particular order.
John Stockton, Reggie Miller, Bruce Bowen, Rick Mahorn, Bill Lambeer, but there are a lot of good arguments for others.
Damnit. I actually laughed.
BB tops da list easily. be a true ankle-breaker, when he was playing dis game he was the nightmare for most guards/forwards imho.
Good list, but I don't know about Matt Barnes. I just don't have much to go on for that one.
lol at the short term fan
Bill Laimbeer was worse than any of the ones listed.
Big ty Bynum might be in the top 5 one day.
I doubt there would be such a thing as a flagrant foul without them. The Celtics, Sixers, and later on the Knicks would get physical as , but nothing like those Pistons teams.
Hall of Infamous:
Malone - elbows, kicks in da nuts, knees
Laimbeer - elbows, saw once when bounced the head of another player on the floor
Rodman - elbows
Bowen - flying kicks, stepping under a jump shooter,
Shaq - broke players fingers with a slap, threw down driving players, violently pushed the players breaking their ankles prior to his dunk, elbows
Dishonorable Mentions:
Stockton - illegal picks, elbows
Rodman - very violent, cheap shots
Bynum - elbows, threw down driving players
McHale - almost assassinated Rambis with a "clothsline"
Kobe - elbows, showing
Oakley - elbows, punching
Barkley - elbows
Artest - cheap shot artist
Yeah, these days dirty fouls were are what were considered normal in the 70s and 80s.
Maybe narrow it by decade?
I'll go out on a limb and say that Bruce wasn't as dirty as most of the other players listed here. I don't think anything he ever did was proven intentional, and due to him playing such good defense on the perimeter, foots were landed on.
The Amare thing was the only play I ever questioned. The rest seemed fabricated by pussy Allen, VC, and the suns. I never heard Kobe complaining.
top 5?
hard to say. Mailman is easily number one though. No one else come close to him imo.
Sorry I'm not wallowing in middle age like you, gramps
ahh las night was one of the wildest on record for me...
but tbh I hate getting into these type of debates....I beleive in hard nose play and I'm a firm believer in player retaliation at the right time. However, there's only 1 maybe 2 truly dirty players in the history of game...
Karl Malone was truly dirty in every respect...From Knocking David Robinson out COLD...Robinson went into convulsions and on the court....I still owe that video to Luva...and I will get it.. to giving Zeke 40 + s ches because Zeke was giving it to Stockton...we could write a book about Malone he did so much ....
However, he fly's under the radar now but the nastiest SOB to ever lace em up is Reggie Evans...he sexually assaulted a player on the court in front of millions...He wins hands down:
I don't have a problem with anyone that put Malone as the dirtiest, or one of the dirtiest players of all-time. , I'd list him in the top 5...BUT...do not use the elbow against Zeke as an example of his dirty play. There were two separate occasions in that game where Stockton received cheap shots from Piston bigs before the elbow to Thomas. Malone spoke before the game about how the Jazz had to match Detroit's bullying to have any shot of beating them, so Malone saw the opportunity and leveled Isiah. At that time in basketball, he had it coming.
I also laugh when Isiah himself complains about the hit because he was the ring leader in so many other hits. The one time he gets it he starts crying about it. A sign of the ultimate bully.
