If Tim Duncan wins Finals MVP this year, it will be the third in his career.

Only three other players in NBA history have won 3 or more Finals MVP's:

    Michael Jordan (6)
    Magic Johnson (3)
    Shaquille O'Neal (3)

Newsflash: Tim Duncan is already in legendary company ...

has won both regular season MVP and Finals MVP
8 straight first team all nba
    two time finals MVP
    two time regular season MVP

He's already considered the best power forward of all time. You think getting another finals MVP is going to really change anything?

I was just making a point about 1 specific category.

    No need to over-analyze it.

Manu should get the MVP .. that would be cool. I am sure Tim just wants the ring this time.

And they say the Finals features no super-stars.

For some, not all. An MVP these finals would cement that

Did they not have Finals MVP when Bill Russell was playing?

If Larry Bird doesn't have 3, that means someone else won a Finals MVP with Larry Bird on there team, which is pretty much unthinkable. Must of bene Mchale or Parish perhaps.

I realise that, but it is unthinkable to think that someone other than Larry would win a finals MVP on a team with Larry on it.

Cedric Maxwell had a pretty awesome Finals in I believe 1981, IIRC. He averaged like 18 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for the Celtics.

You are talking about the new age era apparently...

Those stats don't look particuly imposing if you were to put them up against a typical Larry Bird type statistical season/playoff series.

Maxwell was one of the most underrated players in history. He was like the 80's version of Robert Horry -- always coming up big in big games. In '81 when he won the Final's MVP, he had like 30 points and 20 rebounds in game 5 when the series was tied at 2-2. A couple years later, he led the way for the Celtics in game 7 of the finals.
