I have to admit that the nerd in me was quite disappointed with some of the pairings in a story that the Dallas Morning News did, matching up the Texas Rangers with super hero counterparts.

Josh Hamilton is not Superman. There is no Superman on the Texas Rangers and there are less than a handful in the league. Superman is invincible. He swoops in and saves the day. Hamilton is vulnerable, haunted by a dark past that drives him to succeed. He’s constantly fighting with his demons and while he has the support of his teammates, they’ll never truly know his pain. Despite all that, he seems to be able to do everything. He’s got a great bat and he’s also an excellent defensive outfielder with the speed, instincts and arm rarely found in such a gifted offensive player. He’s Batman.

They have Nelson Cruz as Thor. Thor is a God. If he ever exuded his full power, he could take down the Avengers himself. But make no mistake, Cruz packs a punch. He’s not great at grinding out singles or fielding his position, so he’s mostly known for his power. He’s The Thing as he matches up well with the Fantastic Four’s best catchphrase: It’s clobberin’ time!

As for Endy Chavez, they call him Resurrection Man, like he’s back from the dead. But that’s not nearly giving him enough credit for what he’s done on the field (the reason we’ve created The Endy Chavez watch). Chavez is The Sentry, an overlooked and mostly unknown Avenger that may be the most powerful of all, capable of fighting The Hulk and even Galactus on his own (which would explain Chavez’s time in New York). In any case, they’re not using him enough.

The one that they nailed: Michael Young is Iron Man.
