I've tried a couple of adware/spyware programs, none have been able to remove it.

The main issue they are having is the when links through google redirect to other sites.

I had this exact same problem three days ago with my computer. I had a Google redirect virus and it was a pain in the ass to get rid of. I had tried different anti malware programs, antivirus, you name it and none of them did the job until I tried Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool found here: http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/utility

That ing Google redirect virus is now gone after pulling my hair for two, three days trying to fix it.

If you decide to run combofix, do it as a last resort. You can seriously up the computer if you don't know what you're doing.

There's a good reason why that program comes with a warning even in the homepage. You gotta be careful with it. I've seen people use it and can't get Windows to start up again.
