How certain is anyone over the truth over the charges?

Now, we all know Iran has a funky justice system - but where is the evidence of espionage? Has anyone heard/seen anything about it? At the very least, you can see the men being held look extremely weak...if Iran can't show espionage, why can't they just let them go on time served for illegal entry into the country?
Methinks Iran is trying to prove a point. And. I don't like it.
I cannot answer your question any better except to say sovereign rights. Things like this are why our State Department warns about traveling to certain locations.
On the bright side the US may learn a little about how to deal will illegal immigration.

In my National Security Law class, we had a guest lecturer who had gone to Iraq to help with reforming their courts. Often, it just came down to whether a panel of judges believed one guy or the other (credibility of witnesses being a function of juries in our system). Since judges knew the law, it was assumed that they would properly evaluate every situation based simply on that knowledge, without burdens of proof or evidentiary standards. It's not surprising that Iranian judges would make such a ruling, regardless of how little evidence there is.
On the bright side obama is gone next year.
Though I believe that very likely, I must remember how stupid most the people of our nation can be.
Maybe Iran would be interested in trading the hikers for some stinger missiles.
