Irene looks mild compared to the Columbus day Storm (Cyclone) I witnessed as a child.
I've heard that about 30 people have died and that it caused record flooding. Maybe it's not the worst hurricane ever, but it did some damage.

He said that it had been downgraded to a tropical storm, that the waves from the surge were powerful and that people were curious about the storm. That was his report. he did not even criticize the people out there as it being unsafe.
