Welfare moms pass the piss test at a rate board conservative could only wish for...

and now..FL is on the hook for millions of dollars for these stupid tests....

Welfare drug-testing yields 2% positive results

TALLAHASSEE -- Since the state began testing welfare applicants for drugs in July, about 2 percent have tested positive, preliminary data shows.

Ninety-six percent proved to be drug free -- leaving the state on the hook to reimburse the cost of their tests.

The initiative may save the state a few dollars anyway, bearing out one of Gov. Rick Scott's arguments for implementing it. But the low test fail-rate undercuts another of his arguments: that people on welfare are more likely to use drugs.

At Scott's urging, the Legislature implemented the new requirement earlier this year that applicants for temporary cash assistance pass a drug test before collecting any benefits. The law, which took effect July 1, requires applicants to pay for their own drug tests. Those who test drug-free are reimbursed by the state, and those who fail cannot receive benefits for a year.

    ~snip~

More than once, Scott has said publicly that people on welfare use drugs at a higher rate than the general population. The 2 percent test fail rate seen by DCF, however, does not bear that out.

Yes, this was brought up in another link. However, how many people who know they would test positive do you think might choose not to ask for benifits until they are clean? You can bet it's saving money, it's just that we cannot quantify how much.

Ya know, there's such a thing as welfare dad's too.

Who cares who gets what, what gets saved - doesn't matter. The point isn't that some of these welfare es are spending money on drugs, it's that they don't spend it on the kids. The boyfriends or the cousins or the grandmas get everything. It's always been like that tho, the reality hasn't changed.

Sure we can! Compare the amount of welfare applicants now to the amount directly before drug testing was implemented (should be lower, as you say) to determine savings, then subtract the cost of the testing.

If there was any savings, the politicians who implemented it would be reporting as such ad nauseum. Since we aren't hearing about it, the more likely answer is that the testing ended up costing more than it saved.

The problem with drug testing is that it works really horribly on all of the hardcore drugs which stay in one's body for like 3 days after use. Really the only drug which stays around for a long time is weed.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley Admits There’s No Evidence Supporting Her Claim About Drug Testing The Unemployed

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) admitted today that she was wrong in asserting that half the people who applied to work at a nuclear facility in the state had failed drug tests, yet said she will still push to drug test the unemployed.
