    http://tucsoncitizen.com/wildcatrepo...ootball-coach/

    Arizona will hold a news conference at 6 p.m. Monday, presumably to discuss the future of the Arizona Wildcats football program, two sources told TucsonCitizen.com late this afternoon.

    Speculation is that coach Mike Stoops will be relieved of his duties.

    Athletic director Greg Byrne will address the media at the conference.

    The sources also said Defensive Coordinator Tim Kish is expected to be named interim coach. Kish has been with Stoops at Arizona since Stoops was hired in 2004. Stoops named him co-coordinator in 2009 and he became sole coordinator this year.

    Stoops is 41-50 in his eighth season at Arizona. The Wildcats have lost 10 consecutive games at FBS opponents.

    Arizona started the season beating NAU 41-10, but then lost to four straight ranked opponents, three of them Top 10 teams. The apparent icing was an ugly loss Saturday in Corvalis, Ore., to a winless Oregon State team.

    The losses this season:

    • 37-14 to Oklahoma State;

    • 37-10 to Stanford;

    • 56-31 to Oregon;

    • 48-41 to USC;

    • 37-27 to Oregon State.

    More later …

    Couldn't in be happier.

    Got a bonus at work and heard this 5 minutes later. When I announced the news, I'd never seen a happier group of people. What a great in day.

    Come on down to Tucson Mike Leach

    sons if DoK gets his wish and Leach goes to UA then they would compete for a Pac 12 le almost immediately. People underestimate how much of a genius he really was. My favorite story was when he was OC at Oklahoma.

    Supposedly, before a game against UT, Leach designed a play sheet full of trick plays. He told one of his trainers to go drop it by one of the UT buses pretty much ensuring that they would get their hands on it. So when one of the Longhorns staff got it, they got excited and began gameplanning for all of them when Leach was just bluffing the whole time. So UT basically started yelling out all of the Sooners' fake trick plays when they had the ball, and OU scored quickly on their first 3 possessions when UT was gameplanning for something that was never gonna happen

    If Leach actually is hired midseason (which is a possibility) watch them go from 1-5 to 7-5. Leach w/ an NFL QB and two NFL receivers would be in unreal.

    Top target is Petersen, but unlikely. Belotti and Leach seem pretty realistic.

    I told DoK about Arizona and Petersen on Sunday, although I'm still not convinced it's going to progress enough to become serious talk. However, Peterson's kid has a medical condition, and both Arizona and UCLA (both should have openings) have top-flight medical facilities, so that could factor in, as much as it sucks that this could be a factor.

    Beyond the ideal of Peterson, Leach has long been linked to Arizona because they run the same offensive system, and a solid amount of offensive talent is already in place. Leach has been linked to New Mexico, so this firing may have been done to allow real negotiations with Leach before he opts to go elsewhere.

    Another top candidate is former Oregon mastermind, Belotti. He was thinking about the Colorado job, but wanted to wait until his son graduated from HS. Well, his kid graduates this year, and he has a solid relationship with Arizona AD, Byrne. He could come in, build the program up for 5/6 years (since he's 60) and develop a successor like he did with Kelly.

    Beyond that, other names I've heard are Rich Rodriguez, the Wisconsin OC, Boise OC, Texas OC, etc...

    However, Arizona has some money, has a nice fanbase, has good facilities, and has the TV contract for future growth and showcasing, so my guess is Arizona gets one of Peterson (least likely), Leach (strong), or Belotti (strong).

    One last name I've heard mentioned should he become available is Richt. Not sure how serious, but from what I hear the feelers sent out make it seem he'd be willing.

    However, I think the early firing is to better lock up already available coaches, not unavailable, so Richt and Peterson may be better for the UCLA search (especially Richt).

    God it'll cancel out all the greatness of Stoops being fired if they hire that worthless Rich Rodriguez. Idk why Arizona thinks it's some powerhouse football program with tons of tradition that can hire a coordinator or coach from a conference as the head coach and be successful. They're no different than UA basketball pre-Olson, they're never gonna take the next step until they have a coach with an already accomplished track record who can create buzz.

    Richt or Leach would be a good hire. Obviously Peterson but I don't see that happening.

    Sumlin would also be a good hire.

    I don't think any coordinator would work for Arizona. Their next coach needs be an experienced head coach who's not too old but has been the coach of winning teams in major conferences.

    I think Peterson is a good possibility. Boise State's athletic department is under scrutiny and they lost a couple of scholarships. Kellen Moore is a senior and this is a chance for Peterson to move to one of the elite conferences. He might go for it.

    I think the chances of Peterson leaving Boise State after the season are about 50% (for several reasons), but the chances of him coming to UA are less than 5%.

    The program in its current state isn't a good situation at all. Tim Kish is a defensive coordinator and will be a worse head coach. The team might very well be 3-9 or 2-10 by the end of the season with no talent moving forward. If Leach is willing to take the job right now, they need to pull the trigger.

    I am ok hiring the right assistant, but not on name only. I want a proven elite recruiter. However, my realistic ideal I bring in Belotti for 6/7/8 years, let him build the talent, establish a system and recruiting ties, and develop a successor. It makes sense. Brings in both a proven winner and the top-flight coordinator for the future. I would not be upset with Leach at all, nor would I be too upset with Sumlin or Hudspeth.

    I can see why people like Belotti but I in hate Oregon's offense and think it's never gonna win a big bowl game. I prefer an offense that's capable of utilizing the forward pass.

    Don't confuse this Oregon with that Oregon. Belotti's Oregon was #3 in the country with Joey Harrington as a #1 overall prospects and Heisman candidate. Belotti ran a more traditional offense, heavy on the downhill power run (Jonathan Stewart, most recent), with good o-lines that allows for a spread field. They were beauties. His defenses were never great, but I think he can bring in some studs to stuff the run and let everything follow from there. Also, get yourself a good defensive coordinator and I think he succeeds.

    Belotti ran more of a pro-style offense at Oregon. Kelly brought the spread.

    Richt will never leave Georgia unless he's fired. Fertile recruiting ground, excellent fan base, facilities and he's on his way to winning the SEC East.

    I would definitely go with Leach if I was Arizona.

    The UofA Stanford game was such a miserable experience I'm not going again for the rest of the season. Our stadium is so old and ty, the student section is too small, and all the freshman go to the games. Because the freshman class gets bigger every year you have to show up like 2 hours early to get a seat (no exaggeration).
