[Update: Canada, Latin America, and Europe are also getting their Vita on Feb. 22. The image you see above is the final North America box.]
Today, at San Francisco's Web 2.0 Summit, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Jack Tretton, announced the official release date of the PlayStation Vita for North America: February 22, 2012. Yes. YES.
This delicious portable will be available at major retailers for $249.99 for the Wi-Fi model and $299.99 for the 3G/Wi-Fi model.
That's too long to wait, though less than we thought at first. I want it. I WANT IT NOW.

I don't know how I feel about the Vita. It's really cool, no doubt but I feel like I was burned by the PSP already.

Wow, what a failure to put that out in February instead of being able to make it in time for Christmas.
Depends on the reason they're putting it out so late. Would likely be an even bigger dose of fail if they did a holiday release with nothing but games at launch.
I don't think the late launch has anything to do with les (okay probably some to do with it), but probably more to do with that earthquake in Japan that some of you all might have heard about.
Isn't the earthquake what pushed the iPhone 4s release back as well?
Tablet or Vita? Tablet or Vita? Hmmm...
Yeah I've totally soured on the Vita.

The 3G PlayStation Vita is finally coming to the US in February, courtesy of AT&T. Sony's latest handheld gaming platform is being billed by the carrier as a product that is "going to change the gaming industry. Period." Those are mighty bold words but, as we already learned, it's a mighty bold device. You'll be able to sign up for one of two data plans directly from the device -- $15 for 250MB or $25 for 2GB. Of course, that's not terribly surprising since those are the standard contract-free data plans available from Ma-Bell. You'll be able get your 3G Vita fix starting February 22nd.

Gaming on a tiny screen sucks unless you're playing simple NES style games or puzzles. LOL @ changing the gaming industry. PERIOD.
