The NCAA realignment roulette continues, and the uncertain future of the Big East is affecting a lot of schools. Pittsburgh and Syracuse have already moved on to the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the Big East is currently on life support.

The conference is now down to five football programs, as the New York Times reports that West Virginia has applied and been accepted into the Big 12.

West Virginia has been the flagship football program of the Big East, and losing the Mountaineers will hurt the conference’s chances to hold on to its automatic spot in the Bowl Championship Series.

But they may be losing a bigger plum than that. Campus Corner reports that Notre Dame is considering becoming an associate member of the Big 12. Notre Dame was listed as a “possible future candidate” in conference realignment reports given to Missouri officials last month.

Tulane should have just gone D3 like they were talking about a few years back. That's about the level they play football anyway.

Makes sense for ND. No other major conference would be willing to take them under a hybrid cir stance (no football) except the crumbling big12.

, Why do you keep saying crumbling big12? Is it because ATM is leaving the conference? Hate to burst your bubble but ATM will not be missed....

Or because even Pickens is saying that people aren't happy with what's going on. Could be that.

It's obvious no one will miss A&M. It was barely a news story.

It's just the same butthurt that's been going on since this all started. The Big 12 has already upgraded with TCU so it's a become pretty much a non-issue for anyone outside of College Station.

No bigger story than Nebraska, Colorado, Pitt., Syracuse, TCU or WVU for that matter..Big 12 has pretty much moved on with replacements, so its time for ATM to do the same. With WVU added to the mix the Big 12 is stronger than it ever has been in my opinion..

Only thing suprising in this story is the addition of WVU to the Big 12 for the 2012-2013 season..

Nebraska, Colorado, A&M and Mizzou for WVU and TCU and the conference is stronger than its ever been?

If you only go by the amount of teams representing a conference then yes, going from 12 to 10 would make the big 12 conference weaker. Between Nebraska, Missouri, ATM, TCU, WVU, and Colorado guess which teams lead in the most victories over the last 10 seasons of NCAA football? Quality of big 12 football is much improved with these additions and you would be foolish to argue otherwise...Take a look at the last 10 seasons for each of these schools and tell me differently.

If you think adding TCU and WVU is the same as having Nebraska, Colorado, Texas A&M, and Mizzou then I feel sorry for you. The last 10 years is the last 10 years. Go look at the historical #s between all the programs you just lost plus add in the market value, fan bases, and tv sets they lost with all this re-alignment. The big12 is most certainly not better off and there isn't even an argument. Then start thinking about all the other sports, academics, stadiums and things that are important to a conference.

lol TCU having a good 10 years. The last time they were relevant at all was like the 1950s before this run they had going shuffling between the power house conferences of the MWC, WAC, and CUSA.

West Virginia has a good historical football program, no doubt about that, but it still doesn't make up for what's lost.... There is a reason the SEC CHOSE Missouri over WVU..... Repeat: the SEC CHOSE Missouri over West Virginia.

So you really believe Colorado, ATM, and Mizzou have been more successful than TCU since 2000 in football?

Did I say that? Historically do you think TCU has a better football program than any that left? If not, what else do they bring? Nothing.

What do A&M and Mizzou bring to the SEC?

$. That's what this is all about. More money the conference has = Ability to be a stronger conference.

actually, the better the marketability, the more money the conference can bring in.

This is all money driven of course. But to make the assertion that the big12 is now stronger and better off is ridiculous. They are still a conference and better than most but by no way shape or form are they better off now then they were 2 years ago with 12 members. That's just a re ed statement.

So you are saying that the TV contract that Beebe got for the Big12 earlier this year makes the conference not any better off in any way shape or form than where they were 2 years ago.

    you're re ed, tbh.
