TPark, stay away from Atkins, its not a healthy diet at all. Try to use the South Beach Diet, they let you actually eat carbs(the good ones) and i believe they have a large list of foods that are acceptable
Now im not asking for recipies, Im just asking for advice on how to cook some stuff.
First off, Im starting back on my Atkins diet, because im a fat toad and would like to look decent for the next roundtable in November.
I usually eat mostly, chicken, steak, beef, salad, when on the diet.
Id like some advice on marinades (spelling blech)
Some people like to make scratch marinades some like to use already made.
Myself??? Id like to take a shot at scratch, pouring something in a pan, then rubbing in some stuff.
Also, For Atkins Dieters only, is there any alternates to meat and salad that are ok for the diet that you have found??
I feel boxed in cause im not a big vegetable fan.
Thanks guys.

its your health, do whatever you please, but be warned.Atkins, which has led the low-carb charge, got good scores for short-term weight loss, but landed at the bottom of the ratings because of poor marks on retention and nutrition.
The report, released in Consumer Reports magazine's June issue, said the Atkins diet calls for too much fat and saturated fat, too few fruits, too little fiber and "might have a negative effect on some dieters' health."
Cooking meat is easy, and unless you are just burning up with desire to create your own marinades, just go with store bought (and dry rubs too).
If you really want to get your diet going in the right direction, (and you want to accomplish something impressive in the kitchen) I highly, HIGHLY recommend the book Perfect Vegetables.
I too used to not like vegetables, but being the flexitarian (vegetarian flip-flopper) that I am, I felt it necessary to find tasty vegetable recipes. The book Perfect Vegetables is excellent, nay, IT's DA BOMB.
Try it, you'll like it.
As far as alternatives go, try cheese or nuts (not too many). This will sound strange, but I found that cream cheese on pork rinds delicious.
Intruth, atkins is really bad for you too many sat/trans fats, the point is you NEED carbs just the right kind high protein and low carb diets are always the best, you want complex carbs really and not simple carbs, take whole wheat products, veggies, some fruits in there really, cut out all simple sugars and carbs, no soda, no beer ect, also working out helps a lot, diets only do so much and you have to be careful you don't want to drop too fast. It's ok to have something "bad" here and there , but don't over do it.
Mainly you really want a diet of chicken, fish, some red meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, whole wheat products(It's how I eat, I'm Hypoglycemic)Really just higher protein because protein speeds up your metabolism, by like 30ish % I think if I remember right, it also enables you to build muscle,You also want to do strength training work out if you want to lose weight, jogging and walking is good also depending on your weight you can burn 500+ calories an hour of walking like 2 mph,But you want the weight training because it builds more muscle and the more muscle the more weight you lose, it's the best way to lose it, because you burn x amount of calories a day, a pound of fat only burns 5 calories while a pound of muscle burns 60 calories a day, so the more muscle the more you burn not working out just in general, if you want any tips or anything just pm me and I will give you some good work out routines and meals ect.
Good for you by deciding to take this route.
If you actually read Atkin's book, you'll see that he does not advocate a high-fat diet in the long run, only short term. Start out high-fat in the beginning, then slowly switch over to low-fat sources of protein.
Eh fat isn't bad for you, the right kinds anyways, fats from nuts even meat isnt really bad for you, the only bad thing for you is simple sugars and carbs sat fat isn't even that big of a deal, high protein and some good fats for the win imho, most meat isn't really bad on fat anyways, chicken has no fat really, well skinless and breast, fish is nothing but protein and good fat and very low in calories, in the end for losing weight it doesnt overly matter, calories are calories 3500 calories in chocolate or carrots still = a pound of fat.
Atkins Diet is bad for individuals that exercise.
desflood is right.
Although, I think Ill switch to southbeach just on the fact, you can have fruits wich I LOVE, (nothin better than a cold fruit salad of blueberries strawberrys rasberrys bannanas on a hot day in the summer)
I like that the whole wheat, (Wich I dont mind, I love a good turkey whole wheat sandwich)
Thanks for the recipie advice Guru looks great.
Yeah, I keep telling people on these high-carb low-fat diets that fat occurs naturally in many foods. Sugar occurs naturally only in fruit and a few veggies, and that there is a difference between the sugar in fruit and sugar that's been refined a thousand times over. They just keep going back to, "But fat is bad for you," and all the while they're not losing the weight they want to.
what are some great ones Guru, that you have used or found??just go with store bought (and dry rubs too).
BTW, I grill all my meat, IMO, the best way.
I am assuming on the "south beach diet" you can eat anything you want as long as you step it up in the playoffs.Really, I'd suggest that any carbs you eat have a lot of fiber with 'em.
As for marinades, I like a simple worchestershire & Tony Chachere's or Cavender's greek seasoning.
I use soy sauce in my steak marinade any one else tried that?
Yeah I love those high carb low fat diets, EAT LOW FAT YOU'LL LOSE WEIGHT...oh wait what's with?Low fat food is stuffed with sugar that causes your blood sugar to e and insulin to e and make your blood sugar drop making you feel like , and sooner or later causing diabetes.
Sugar is sugar though your pancreas(spelling?)can't tell the difference between sugar from an apple or a candy bar, but the difference is that apple has fiber in in which causes the sugar to be absorbed slowly into the blood steam and fall slowly also, instead of all these simple sugars and carbs they go right through and e in the blood stream, causing the e in insulin causing you get get hungry because your blood sugar is dropping it's crappy, the human race wasn't meant to eat simple sugars or carbs, sugar is a poison intruth it's one dna molecule off of cocaine, same family plant, just as addictive.
Wanna lose weight TPark? Ditch the bull diet fad crap and just exercise.
I know, I know, it's an alien concept in our society to actually put forth labor and effort to gain what you want, but trust me, it works and had for thousands of years.
Here's what you do and I guarantee you'll shed pounds. You don't need a fancy gym membership and you can take the regimen on the road with you.
100 pushups
100 situps
30 pullups (dead hang)
30 minutes running stairs (outside in the real world)
Work yourself up to those limits and repeat daily.
Flexitarian???
That's not really a word, is it?
Nothing fancy. For dry rubs, I like McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning the best (aka known as Canadian steak seasoning if you buy the industrial size at Sam's club). McCormicks also makes a Montreal-type chicken dry rub.
As for marinades, I'd typically pick up the standard Lawry's stuff. I'm sure others will have better suggestions. Personally I'd recommend soaking a 2-pound flank steak in Lawry's mesquite and lime overnight in the fridge, and then cooking it over a very hot grill for 10 minutes on each side. Then just slice it against the grain and trick it out like you would fajitas.
1369,
I have a job that starts at 8 am and ends at midnight, and there is no time in between.
Im doin this diet, but the carnival I contract with is building a trailer that will have state of the art work out equipment that will be made for the owners and supervisors only, if you pay a 100 a year fee.
Cool with me.
Ill be getting up at 5, getting in there for 2 hours, and doing the diet.
Thanks for the advice.
Well, it's on the Internets now, so it must be a word.
You're right and wrong, yes you need to work out, but if you don't eat less then you burn you'll stay the same weight or still gain, intruth what you weigh isn't that big of a deal, more you BMI ,I mean I weigh like 215-220 and my BMI is like 12-13% so weight isn't so important, muscle weighs more then fat.
Do what I did for HS Wrestling. Eat twice a day and jog a.
