Why not? They don't have to overpay him.

you get him for free and he can shoot, at least he did last year. spurs fans hate him because he sucked 2 years ago and the spurs kept his salary the same or increased it. gm's that give out these contracts are the reason the lockout is happening

Spurs fans hate him because he sucked the final 40-50 games of the season and then flamed out spectacularly in the playoffs. His 2010-11 was practically a repeat of Steve Smith's 2001-02 season.

i dunno man, the amount of times he attacked the rim for a dunk, is basically nearly the same amount of times bonner attacks the rim....i dunno if he needs more shots to get going, but sometimes he just flat out sucks in the spurs system by being the 4th option....he cant create his own offense, he needs to be fed, which the spurs major ball handlers arent good at since they need to get theirs also to get going....

Jefferson is a minimum player who will probably get whatever the new taxpayer MLE will be (like 2/5 or whatever) from a tax paying team.

He's a bench caliber player who was thoroughly outplayed by a minimum salaried 2nd year 2nd rounder like Sam Young.

I'm not at all surprised though that he is mischaracterized by 48 MoH as having 'lots to offer' and such. This is the same site that worships Bonner and even when their rep was on the NBA Today podcast proclaimed that Bonner was going to be why the Spurs could beat the Lakers in the playoffs.

He went from 15mil to 9mil, fourth highest paid player. I really think he's got to be 1 or 2 option on offense to keep his aggressiveness. The big 3 can always get theirs but when they get him involved it adds a new dimension. The whole point of getting him was to help the offense. If they're not going to do that they may as well go back down to lockdown defense with a Bruce Bowen type of defender.

(ahem) Yes yes... RJ is highly desirable. Any team should be willing to snatch him up in an instant, and probably trade a good player for him.

    It's a no brainer...

RJ is still a good player, who is vastly overpaid and stuck in an offense that has never suited his abilities. Resigning was perhaps the biggest mistake since...since...resigning Bonner, I suppose. It still blows my mind that they didn't pull of some sort of a sign-and-trade for him.

RJ wanted too much money. No team would have wanted to trade for RJ and pay him what he was asking for.

If RJ was asking for $5 million then you might have had some actual interest in him.

being serious i think if the spurs do let him go the celtics will probably snatch him up. they dont have anyone above 6'5 to guard small fowards to spell pierce. he probably ends up going ring chasing.
