Saw this commercial tonight during the GOP Debate.

    My first thought was "huh?"

So, what say you folks? Should we reduce the number of legal immigrants allowed into the US? What do you hope it would accomplish? Follow up, what do you think it would actually accomplish?

    Who sponsored the commercial.

Surely someone captured it and put it on YOUTUBE. I'm going to look, have you?

So why didn't you tell us who sponsored it?

I realize this is a foreign concept for you, but I was hoping to get responses from people who think for themselves.

I can think better than most, thank you.

If you are assuming it was sponsored by republicans, just because it was on during the republican debates... What does that make you?

I ask again. Who was the commercial sponsor?

Was the commercial specific, or general. I think most reasonable people would agree there are some visas that should not be granted. However, as far as I know, the general republican and conservative consensus is to increase legal immigration and come down harder on illegal immigration.

No you can't. You're a ing idiot, as demonstrated time and time again.

If you are assuming it was sponsored by republicans, just because it was on during the republican debates... What does that make you?
I didn't assume anything, as you accused me of doing before you edited your post. You're someone who assumes someone is assuming something they aren't. What does that make you?

I ask again. Who was the commercial sponsor?
You can ask all day, and I'll continue to not say. Who sponsored it is irrelevant, I want to know what people think for themselves. I know this automatically disqualifies you from having an opinion, since you’ve demonstrated time and again you are not capable of thinking for yourself.

This thread isn't about a commercial. It's about the idea of reducing the number of legal immigrants in America. Try to stay on topic, Forum Cop. If you want to talk about commercials, start another thread.

Who sponsored it and the context of its message is relevant, since you brought it up the way you did.

I would say we need to increase legal immigration in general, but not during economic times like we have now.

We need to throw open the ing doors, especially to educated engineers and scientists. Brain drain the rest of the world.

"Ha, ha, you spent all that money educating them, but now they live/work here, human capital pwnage!"

It is important to him because it is one of the methods by which his confirmation bias works. He will select some minor semantic error, and use that as a basis to completely dismiss the entire main point, no matter how well constructed. I call it the "AHA! Cognitive Dissonance Reduction Process"

I see you fail to understand my last post to Scott, and you talk about confirmation bias. My God.

May I suggest you stop and consider that I did give him a response after he clarified.

I must confess to not really reading your post too closely, and was speculating a bit on your normal tendencies, as opposed to anything specific to this thread.

A bit sleepy anyhoo. Been doing end of month reconciling so my brain is a bit drained at this point. Nothing like chasing down minor errors hidden in hundreds of potential entires to take it out of ya.

    Yep...

Your speculation, and calling me biased.

How often do you apply your standards of others to yourself? Is your motto "Do as I say, not as I do?"

How about a response in the pseudoscience thread as well.

Argh. Communicating with you through a written medium can be maddening. I honestly am not entirely sure what you are trying to drive at here. I'm sure it makes sense in your head, but it is not quite all that clear.

Just be more careful about who you say is biased when you have your own.

should only let in ppl who are professionally, where their current jobs can be transfer into america

then again you are taking a countrys best resources to come to your country, while that country gets into the s with undersupply of professionals to keep up with the demands in services...aka like doctors, nurses, teachers, skilled labour...

I'm all for letting more people legally immigrate; we'll need young workers to prop up the benefits we're giving to the old.

There aren't even any jobs for the young people we've already got, only 55% of 16-29 year olds are currently employed. What are you, stupid or something?

someone just be biased on all immigration-related topics as he always be imho, trying to derail the thread and to deviate it towards the "commercial" when the main point of this thread doesn't have much to do with the "commercial" itself. its fine to be a supporter of "legal" immigration or you might just be doing so to flatter your wife and in-laws who're all "legal" immigrants, but please try not to preach your re ed concepts to them young lads here. im pretty sure most posters here each have a BA degree at least, which you don't have...

so what makes the difference between a "legal" immigrant and an "illegal" alien? isn't it just a paperwork or and how much does it cost? as you hate them illegals and want them all to leave, why should you give exemptions to them "legal" immigrants? "legal" immigration makes just as little sense to me as "legal murder" tbh. illegals don't take away those decent jobs and they don't gnaw our welfare. to some extent "legal" immigrants are more of a danger to this country then illegals imho, while illegal immigrants should leave this country, the "legal" ones should too.

Sluggish economic conditions have dampened and will continue to dampen illegal immigration in the short term. Even still, deportations have reached record highs under Obama. Hard to imagine that changing regardless.

When growth recovers, however, legal immigration should be encouraged to get more young blood, ambition and -- as RG referred to upstream -- the right mix of necessary technical skills -- into the American tax base. Otherwise, we're pretty much ed demographically. We can't carry the load so long as we rest content to nibble around the edges of public relief (LNGR's point, roughly.) We're not reproducing the technical base well enough, nor replacing our population fast enough.

IMHO, we need the immigration. If not now, very very soon. And probably on a very large scale.

The alternative, absent some heretofore unheard of technical breakthrough (or breakthroughs,) is setting our sights much lower than the lifestyle to which we have become accustomed.

Yes, but we need more jobs for the added workforce as well.
