Move to Texas.
Damnit i hate this ! Just had an earthquake in cali again at 1:55pmDude i cant even hide under a rock...i think there is gona be a big one soon.
They are talking about aftershocks...and i just think of mexico how the earthquake was smaller than its aftershocks.
Move to Texas.
I heard that the aftershocks are the most destructive parts of an earthquake....
I need my mommy...dad isnt retiring yet so until then in cali i am, or until i graduate and find a job.
My husband was in San Diego when the one hit on Sunday. Just he and another former Californian stayed in the convention room while everyone else ran out of the building. Because they knew it was a minor one.
Mexico's buildings, I'm sure, aren't earthquake proof, but still...
Honestly, I don't think the San Andreas will be the big one. There's a fault line that runs through Newport Beach and if that thing ever triggers, it's gonna level that city since it's mostly built on land fill.
S y im assuming you dont miss these suckers at all!
There was a 7.2 (I think) quake yesterday off the coast that actually generated a small tsunami. It's geting kind of hairy.
It was 2 days ago, we had a tsunami warning out here...wtf?!?! This is what im saying this is crazy.
*i'm supposed to go to work im actually supposed to be there right now, but im skeered to even drive*
Earthquakes never bothered me. Tornados scare me more. However, when we lived in San Francisco, it used to make me very nervous to be stuck in traffic on the Golden Gate and/or Bay Bridge.
My sister just called me - she lives in Burbank - and told me that there was just a 5.4 earthquake there. She's coming to SA to visit tomorrow and hopes that this isn't a prelude to a larger earthquake while she's gone.
Does she want to be there and not miss it????![]()
Not to add fuel to the fire, but y'all or Northern CA are due for one
The only one that really made me nervous was the Whittier earthquake and I was in Corona at the time. That was one I was seriously considering getting under my desk. We were in SF during the Northridge one (and not in SF during the Loma-Prieta quake, thank goodness), but it took forever to get through to my sister who lives in Canoga Park after Northridge. I remember turning on my tv and seeing the collapsed 5 freeway and thinking, "oh !"
This is a pretty cool link that gives you the risk of an earthquake within 24 hours.

Im in Del Mar, CA and I felt it.
Im probobly half a block from the ocean, I can see it from my house trailer.
If a tsunami hits, Im F'ed lol.
I was in California - Salinas to be exact - during the summer before the Loma Prieta quake, and I remember at least 2 4+ quakes that summer. Those weren't bad by any means, but it was really eerie because those were my first and to this point only quakes. But no one even batted an eye when those happened.
I think it was really ing stupid to build a stacked freeway system like that in California, I just didn't understand it.
I think the tsunami warning was for Northern CA and Oregon. Or was there another one issued?
it was for N CA. Apparently the Tsunami generated was only 10 inches high, so it wasn't a big deal and the systems did work. However, apparently the system didn't work in WA where they should have gotten the warning as well but didn't. People don't want to around after the Indonesian wave.
We moved to SF about 4 years after that and at that time they STILL hadn't finished fixing the freeway.
Yeah, small ones never bothered me, but once that get over 6, there's gonna be some damage. And what a lot of people don't realize that each point it goes up (ie..6.1 to 6.2) it's 10 times that stronger.
So much for Crecent City predicting quakes.
The problem is, there are so many fault lines that they don't know about. IIRC, they didn't even know about the Northridge one, but I may be wrong.
MAINSHOCK
Magnitude : 5.3 Ml
Time : 16 Jun 2005 01:53:25 PM PDT
: 16 Jun 2005 20:53:25 UTC
Coordinates : 34 deg. 3.49 min. N, 117 deg. 0.44 min. W
2 mi. ( 4 km) NE of Yucaipa, CA
16 mi. ( 26 km) ESE of San Bernardino, CA
Event ID : 14155260
STRONG AFTERSHOCKS (Magnitude 5 and larger) -
At this time (immediately after the mainshock) the probability of a strong and possibly damaging aftershock IN THE NEXT 7 DAYS is approximately 10 PERCENT.
EARTHQUAKES LARGER THAN THE MAINSHOCK -
Most likely, the recent mainshock will be the largest in the sequence. However, there is a small chance (APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 PERCENT) of an earthquake equal to or larger than this mainshock in the next 7 days.
WEAK AFTERSHOCKS (Magnitude 3 to 5) -
In addition, approximately 3 to 15 SMALL AFTERSHOCKS are expected in the same 7-DAY PERIOD and may be felt locally.
This probability report is based on the statistics of aftershocks typical for California. This is not an exact prediction, but only a rough guide to expected aftershock activity. This probability report may be revised as more information becomes available.
Hey, Marie! Are those two lady scientists from Cal Tech still around? I think their names are Cate and Lucy? They were always on tv after every quake.
it came down here as well in SO CAL.it was for N CA
All of the owners got together after we got the call, getting ready to evacuate the fairgrounds.
About 5 minutes before we did, they cancelled the warning.
All of it sucked, since it was RIGHT after game 3 and I was pissed so standing out there worrying about a goddamn Tsunami wasn't my idea of a good tuesday night.
I think California is getting ready to fall of into the Pacific at any time.
That is why bought a bunch of desert land in Nevada recently.
Ocean front property for a song baby, that's what I'm talking about.

I was in Palo Alto a week before the big one hit in San Francisco in 89 (?). There was a comparatively small quake that hit at the time while I was in bed with a girl I had met down there. I told her I made the earth move for her...
