After the "Basketball reasons" trade was shot down by the commish, I figured guys like Odom and Gasol would turn emo and request to walk. I actually thought Gasol would be first to request a trade. It turned out to be Odom, but I digress.

Now, I still think Gasol probably had his feelings hurt and the Lakeshow really look desperate to improve the PG spot (as seen in that trade scenario, where they were basically willing to dismantle their frontcourt for CP3).

TP + Dice for Pau works salary-wise. Do you think it would be a wise move?

Pau is certainly one of the best PF in the game right now (a position where the Spurs are sorely lacking), and while he's in the wrong side of 30, he's certainly in his prime.

On the other hand, the Spurs would be losing a great PG in Tony, including the instant offense and corporate knowledge. The Spurs would still need to find another PG (I don't think running Manu/TJ Ford to the ground would be an option), but there's some amenstied alternatives out there (Billups, Baron Davis).

It would be a bold move, much like people have been talking about the last few days. Thoughts?

I would prefer Bynum or his little brother Marc...BUT i've been posting all day we need a big so if that were on the table then yes i would...screw it. Even it it fails I would be a lot happier knowing we TRIED doing something than just sitting with our current roster

..the interesting thing is LA wants a PG very badly but NO WAY IN our FO makes a deal with them lol

I would not... we already have damaged knees in TD, plus the Bynum been talking about over the summer ("I want a team for myself") probably wouldn't work well with the Spurs.

    Yes.

Before trading Hill I would have done it in a heart beat, without Hill I would still do it but I would have to think about it for about 5 seconds. Point being I think Manu can take over the majority of play making and I also think the combination Neal and TJ Ford can handle the rest of the 'PG' minutes. I think the hole at C/PF is greater than the potential hole Parkers exit would create.

Plus I think Pau is the better player.

What if LA could flip Bynum for Howard? TP, Kobe and Howard, not a bad big 3. Use the trade exception to get Millsap and you got Howard, Millsap, Metta, Kobe, TP starting 5.

I'd do that trade without hesitation. No offence to tony but descent point guards are everywhere, this is the age of the point guard, they are everywhere and tony barely qualifies for the top 10 anymore. Good big men on the other hand are extremely hard to find. Of course i'd be in for that deal. But LA would be totally spaz to do it.

TP is also a fairly cheap PG relative to his skills. I doubt LA can get a better PG for the same amount of money, unless they get Billups that is.

this would be rape in every single way for the spurs. they'd have the twin towers again.

In a heartbeat. Of course it would put a ton of pressure on TJ, Manu and Neal to pick up the distributor responsibilities, but Pau is the most skilled all around big man in the game and is underrated defensively.

Yeah, I would. The first rule of trading is you always trade a similarly talented small for a similarly talented big.

That said, it'd mostly be a lateral move for the upcoming season. As good as TD and Pau would be together, not having a point guard would negate a lot of their effectiveness. Asking Manu to run point in this condensed season would be homicide.

It would make the team better able to win a championship in 2012-13, though.

That's when you get on the phone to Billups real quick.

Well, not so fast. I mean, the Lakers would get some saving both on TP's contract (smaller than Gasol) and Dice's contract if he retires. That's some cap room to go for Howard.

Why not? They were shipping Gasol to the Rockets... I don't know it would be that different if he would be heading to the Spurs. They already shredded Odom's contract and they would be picking up the top PG they're looking for.

Yeah but it would make them wish they kept Hill, they would have no PG at all lol.

No PGs, but still a couple facilitators. High-low action with Gasol and Duncan (both adept passers) and pick 'n roll through Manu/Neal are just a couple options. Still there would be some massive retooling since the offense was run heavily through Tony and the pick 'n roll the last couple years.

ya sure? LA just pretty much gifted the 6th MOY to the team that completely embarrassed them in the PO.
