just bring him in if you might need a clutch shot at the end of a quarter ... with him Spurs will not get their defensive mindset back ...

Yes, now we can intimidate our opponents with the Novak/Bonner All-Charmin frontline. The floor will be spread so far, opposing teams will need binoculars.

    Few thoughts:

    1. If 60% of your bigmen rotation is composed of Novak, Blair and Bonner, the Spurs might as well place a welcome mat under the rim.

    2. Why wait so long to get Novak into camp? The only thing that makes sense to me is that the Spurs went after other bigs, struck out and settled for Novak. Even then, bringing him to camp at the beginning was probably the smarter move.

    3. The Spurs can't stop looking around for a legit big. Novak is really just an immobile small forward. Bonner is Karl Malone compared to Novak. A big center needs to be brought in desperately.

The good news is that there's going to be plenty of floor spacing for opponents to stroll to the rim...

Steve is a 13th man, most likely being brought in as another relief pitcher. He plays the same role as Matt. Pop loves shooters who, when called upon, can go in and make a shot. Tired legs equate to short/missed shots and with many b2b games and a compact schedule, regular rotation guys will get some games off.

In the event of a trade that includes Matt, Steve would step into the primary Shooting Big slot. I DO NOT see Novak as the 5th Big outside of that scenario.

I doubt Pop will ever eliminate that role from his scheme. it's burned into his brain.

    Agreed. This is comical.

Just wait for the inevitable game where he scores 6 3's in garbage time and GNSF starts 100 threads about how he should start.

What's all the complaining about? Can't you see the master plan to tank this year for a higher draft pick?

I just can't see the Spurs trading Bonner. Even if it was for draft picks I'd be ecstatic, but I just can't wrap my head around Pop letting Bonner go.

Bonner isn't Karl Malone compared to Gary Coleman.

Honestly though, at least Novak can shoot. He IS going to spread the floor, because unlike with Bonner, people actually respect his shot. He's probably one of if not the purest shooter in the league. Quick release, there's times where I could see a player like him being valuable (Last second shot after a timeout.) Red Rocket, not so much. Maybe Pop will do something with Bonner. Doubt it, but you never know...

Novak isn't a post player or "a big" though, as everyone seems to think, he plays wing and he's a shooter he's not a pivot nor does he guard post players. We are playing small ball eternally. Being tall doesn't make you a power forward
