Never heard of him.
Just read some on him
He seems clueless to me of what I have read on him now.

This dude was one of my all time heroes. The world has lost a great person and a great mind
Never heard of him.
Just read some on him
He seems clueless to me of what I have read on him now.
RIP
He's in Heaven now.
A smarter man would have been able to communicate in a better way, IMO. I agreed with him in many things, but the way he handled himself regarding religion and the war on terror was so off putting I lost a lot of respect.
I doubt he cared.
If there is one think you can't accuse Hitchens of is lack of communication skills. I think you just didn't like his message.
wHY ALL THIS TROUBLE OVER AN ADMITTED ALCOHOLIC?
He was as stupid as he was intelligent...(I have my reasons for my view) but now tell me what did you find incredible about him?
I know Mr. "the Bible says to treat slaves nice" isn't calling anybody stupid.
what you talking bout Willis?![]()
Glad you asked.
What an idiot.
He was a horrible effective communicator. Thats why he pissed so many people off. An effective communicator can make his case even if people are against it. I agreed with him far more than I disagreed with him but that doesn't change that he came off as pompous and stubborn quite often.
His zealotry for being against religion was always vile and militant. If you think thats being a good communicator then I don't know what to tell you.
You would have to read his writings, not just watch the interview clips on youtube.
He saw religion for what it is, and it's not a passive system. Certainly those who try to impose their beliefs upon society and make us conform to their supers ious ignorance aren't going to meet anyone half way.
Mr Hitchens had a position, he believed it and could not be bull ted away from it.
He had a right to be militant about his stance. He wasn't on the attack. He didn't introduce an anti-god. He simply refused to accept that these snake oil salesmen aka evangelists and TV money grubbers were good people. He knew that religion is all about coaxing the mind into being submissive to piss poor reasoning, and dismissing our own inner "bull " warning system.
He felt we were at war with religion, and many of us are.
It's the elephant in the room, but he called it by name.
Any atheist who doesn't kiss religion's ass is a militant atheist.
Loved watching his debates. RIP.
Of course, and the kicker here is that atheism isn't a competing religion as they claim. It's no more a religion than unemployment is a job.
You missed the point completely. Its not about whether he was wrong or right. It was about the way he carried himself and his communication methods.
He carried himself fine. He doesn't (didn't) need to be aesthetically pleasing, nor did he need to kowtow to the age old "respect for religion" facade. He explained himself, the religious nuts bombarded him with false accusations and, over and over, showed they lack the ability to reason, and many like Lane Craig, to even think outside the common fallacious arguments.
I found him to be an incredibly effective communicator. He could have been a sweetheart, you wouldn't have heard of him.
The religious nutjobs don't mind saying Gays are an abomination, that certain natural disasters are acts of and angry god at a certain religion, to judge and attempt to control our lives. And this didn't just start, it's been going on for a of a long time.
Sorry, there's no words Hitchens could have said that's more vile than what's been done in the name of a make believe god or two.
Very well put. Manny is simply one of those people that get butthurt when "atheists don't show respect" to religion.
I'm one of those people huh?
You guys are funny. I get that some of you hate religion to a huge degree, but theres a word in there that doesn't mean disagree. Hitchens embodied hate and anytime you speak with such vitriol it is never going to get your message across effectively to a large group of people. He'll appeal to some people, but thats about it.
I could sit here and talk about the evils of religion day and night but that doesn't mean I thought he did a good job communicating the ty aspects of religion (while ignoring the benefits as well).
Whats really funny is that I had much more of an issue with his approach with the war on terror than religion (although they were entirely unrelated) but you guys went straight to the religion canard.
Well, first time for everything I guess because thats the first time I've ever been accused of somehow defending religion.![]()

First paragraph says it all. Dude felt - and direct quote - "exhilaration" because we were going to be able to fight Muslims.
Defend that. I dare you.
