Just an FYI to local ST posters, I was out cruising in my new ride and noticed a red/maroon color SUV pulling over someone near 410 west and star crest area. I turned around and proceeded to go 410 westbound towards the airport and the same SUV pulled another car over around the McCullough exit. I ended up taking the ramp to 281 north and right around Hollywood park exit noticed the same type of Silver/Grey SUV pulling over someone.
These guys are obviously hiding out and pulling over unsuspecting drivers. But the fact that their now using vehicles that blend in very well in traffic irks the out of me.
Um...they've been using those for a while...I've also seen Camaro's...Challengers...Trucks...
What's the deal with those...
Pig can't do traffic stops in a crown Victoria like all the other piglets?
roughly 6-7 months ago, I saw the mother of all speed traps.
About 7pm at Loop 410/Blanco, they had a cop standing on the overpass with a radar gun pointed westbound. I guess he was signaling up ahead who was speeding.
And up ahead, there were two cops on motorcycles, 3-4 more in cruisers, two Castle Hills cops and even a park police truck......almost all of them had someone pulled over on 410 between West Ave and I-10.
I've never seen anything like it before or since.
money grab maybe...
Too easy to spot. It's much easier to nab someone in a Maroon SUV with Maroon SAPD livery on the side, or silver on silver on one of their F250s.
I'm aware of those other vehicles, but have never seen the Yukon / Tahoe SUV used as a patrol car. The fact that I saw them on 2 major highways within a span of 10 minutes was unique. I didn't know if this was some type of speed trap but I thought that it was odd especially on a Sunday afternoon when traffic was light.
I was just giving a heads up to the locals here any ways.
New Mustangs are also popular cop cars on 410
They have a lot of those here too (TN). So much for police departments being short on cash.
They do this a lot. Also on the southbound side of 281 they do the same thing with a cop standing on the donella bridge and the cops just ahead.
They've been doing this for about 3 years actually. More if you just count using the old unmarked Lincolns/Crown Victorias.
If anyone drives 151, you know there's a straightaway between Military Dr. and Wiseman Blvd. They were sitting on the Military Dr. bridge with radar, and radioing the crusiers which were lined up on the access road next to the Valero. As I passed, I counted 5 lying in wait, with another 2 already giving out tickets.![]()
Anyone even vaguely familiar with this setup realizes that there's no way to ID the people on the bridge until its too late, and there's certainly no way to see the crusiers since the access road is elevated about 25 feet at that point, and there's a curve to the left just after the Military Dr. bridge.
The worst part about it is that people didn't even realize that they had gotten nailed until they were almost at the 410 exit, likely not giving them a chance to put 2 and 2 together.
This I saw about 1 year ago. Yeah, pretty crazy. Fortunately I was behind the woman and pickup that got nailed. We were all doing about 80 or so.
