Last night there was a sequence where Tiago was batteling for a rebound against a Rocketplayer and the situation ended up with the Refs calling a Jumpball.

My question: who gets credit for the rebound? Nobody? Is it counted as a Teamrebound? Or does the player winning the Jumpball get it?

From Yahoo answers...so take it as you will.

If two opponents grab a rebound, its a jump ball. Whoever wins the jump ball will get credit for the rebound.

    No...that sounds wrong.

Because, it's now no longer a rebound situation.

It's just a jump ball. A rebound cannot be given to 2 players simultaneously.
If 2 Spurs come down with the ball, they'll only give credit to one.

If 2 Spurs tip in a missed shot at the rim, they'll give a rebound and points to the same player.

Team rebounds occur when people battle for a rebound and then it goes out of bounds and gives possession to the other team. IE if Scola and Blair were battling for a rebound and Scola knocks it out, that's a possession change. Team rebound stat goes to the SPURS.

OK, but there has to be a rebound stat on every missed shot, right? Either it's an individual rebound or a team rebound. So if it's a jump ball on a rebound, it makes sense that the winner of the jump ball gets the rebound. Who else would you give it to?

Yes, it kind of makes sense, but I'm with MIB. It just sounds wrong.

Yeah, if two opposing players grab a rebound and it results in a jumpball, the player who wins the jump ball gets credit for the rebound.

And that's how it was credited last night:

10:47 Kevin Martin misses 24-foot three point jumper 29-25
10:45 Jumpball: Jordan Hill vs. Tiago Splitter (Kevin Martin gains possession) 29-25
10:45 Jordan Hill offensive rebound 29-25
10:27 Kevin Martin misses 24-foot three point jumper 29-25

Hill won the jumpball so he got credit for the rebound.

A lot of things sound wrong that are true in reality.

The correct question is: who else would you give it to? You've gotta give it to somebody, or to the team.

    That's why I was asking.

    TY for clearing this up.
