Seattle Supersonics guard KENDALL GILL, who quarreled with Coach GEORGE KARL for much of the season over playing time, was granted an indefinite leave from the team yesterday because of clinical depression. In 67 games this season, he has averaged 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 29.4 minutes a game. (AP)

Kupchak should have protected Odom from himself.

By Kupchak entertaining Odom's worst fears after arriving at Staples only made the event untenable for them both. Kupchak should have sent him home and walked away from him. Kupchak was well within his rights to attempt the trade with New Orleans. He was wrong though in each turn after that. Kupchak was the "adult"...Odom the "child." Instead they were both acted like children and the loss is without end.
