Thank goodness. Cost them a home game in the NFC le game with his stupid blitzing with 40 secs less.

Three years after being brought in to change the culture of the defense and help deliver a Super Bowl le, the tenure of New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in New Orleans appears to have come to an end. With Saturday's heartbreaking 36-32 loss at San Francisco in the NFC divisional playoffs ending the Saints' season, all signs are pointing to Williams, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, becoming the new defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams.
While Williams hasn't signed a contract with the Rams yet, several national media outlets have reported that Williams is leaving New Orleans.
It remains unclear if the Saints made an attempt to re-sign Williams, who has been a coordinator for four different teams and a head coach with the Buffalo Bills.
Neither Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis nor Williams responded to messages left by The Times-Picayune on Sunday, and the Saints players and coaches were unavailable for comment.
For at least a week, it had been speculated that Williams would join Fisher once Fisher landed a head coaching job.
Williams served as an assistant under Fisher with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee ans from 1994-2000 and has long considered him his best friend in the business.
Williams, though, did pass up a possible chance to rejoin Fisher in Tennessee in 2009 when he took the job with the Saints. And Williams also passed up opportunities to interview for head coaching jobs in Denver and Tennessee the last two years, partly because he said he felt loyalty to the players he has been coaching in New Orleans
When Williams met with the local media on Thursday for his weekly press conference he said he had been focused on preparing for the Saints' playoff game and not any pending change of address.
He did, however, endorse Fisher while also saying he was enjoying his time working in New Orleans.
"I love here; this is a great organization," Williams said. "I will tell you this about Jeff: he's my best friend in coaching. The National Football League needs him coaching, they need for him to be a head coach in this league, there's not very many people as good as he is at what he does. I'm anxious to see where he's going to go."
ESPN's Adam Shefter, who reported on Sunday that Williams is expected to join Fisher's staff, also reported that the Saints already have a short list of potential replacements -- former Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo and Miami defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.
Payton brought Williams to New Orleans before the 2009 season hoping to change the culture of a defensive unit that was too leaky and lacked an iden y.
Williams had immediate success, as his aggressive, ball-hawking defense led the NFL in takeaways and the Saints to Super Bowl XLIV that season.
But the defense failed to live up to the bar set in 2009 and has been exploited in the playoffs in the last two seasons.
Against the 49ers on Saturday, Williams' unit played sensational for 56 minutes. After not allowing a drive of more than 54 yards in the first 14 possessions, the defense surrendered touchdowns drives of 80 and 85 yards on the final two drives as Williams stuck to his guns and continued to blitz.
DRAFT ORDER: With the loss to the 49ers, the Saints' draft position in this April's draft has been set. The Saints will select 27th, one spot before the Green Bay Packers, who after losing on Sunday to the New York Giants, will pick in the 28th spot.
Because of the trade last April that landed running back Mark Ingram, the Saints won't have a first-round pick. That pick will go to the New England Patriots.
The Saints will have the 27th pick of the second round.

Can't really blame them for the meltdown at the end on Saturday...I mean, your supposed vaunted offense gives up that amount of turnovers and the D holds the 49ers to about 10 points off the mul ude of mistakes means that the defense was rundown by the time the crucial end of the 4th quarter. Granted, Williams' bar was set to the ultimate level by winning the Super Bowl in 2009 that it almost began to haunt him as it usually does when following a winning year like the Saints had. One thing is for sure: the Saints D will be interesting under the watch of Spanuolo...that's for sure.
Williams was a hot HC prospect until the :40 second mark of the 4th quarter last Saturday![]()
Darren Sharper and Jabari Greer made Williams look a lot better than he really was.
You'd think the Buffalo tape would have done it.
I thought he had a good situation in St. Louis. I don't know. Indy seems like the exact same situation unless Peyton comes back healthy.
Somebody's gonna get a uva DC in Spags.
I figured it'd be Philly...but Nawlins makes some sense too.
