An embarrassing revelation on ‘Resident Evil’ game box

By Rich Greenhill | Plugged In – 20 hours ago

A terrifying typoTypos and misspellings have become quite commonplace in our fast new age of digital publishing. It's even intentional most of the time where micro-blogging's concerned and character limits are tight.
Unfortunately, this probably won't fly as an excuse for the poor copy editor who let slip the spelling blunder on the packaging for Capcom's upcoming Nintendo 3DS release, Resident Evil: Revelations.
Check out the trailer for Resident Evil 6
Advance copies of the games have been sent to members of the media (including Yahoo! Games), and we can confirm that adorned on the spine of the box is… er, shall we say, an unapproved variant of the game's sub le. To be precise: "Revelaitons." (For what it's worth, the word on the packaging's face is correctly spelled.)
We checked in with Capcom, who acknowledged the blunder.
"We apologize for the mistake, which will be corrected for subsequent productions of the game," they said in a statement. "We are working on a solution to provide affected customers with the correct packaging. Please visit Capcom-Unity for updates."

This isn't the first time a high-profile video game release was marred by a misprint. The February 2009 release, Guitar Hero: Metallica, also faced gamers' sneers when it mislabeled band Lynyrd Skynyrd as "Lynyrd Skynrd" on its cover.
Could this seemingly innocuous typo affect sales? Both casual browsers and hardcore fans of the franchise may be perturbed at a $50 purchase with a glaring visual error. The gameplay experience is, of course, unaffected, and critical response has been largely positive with a current Metacritic rating of 82 out of 100. "Revelations is a successful blend of old-school Resident Evil horror and new-school action," says Gamespot.
Look for Resident Evil: Revelations -- or "Revelaitons," we should say -- in stores on Feb 7.

Resident Evil has always been something resembling B movie horror. But at least the early ones had an atmosphere that conveyed a sense of dread. The militarization of the series has been of stupid (this new one in particular). It'd be nice if they emulated their work with the GC remake, or go in another direction entirely.
