Between 22 and 27 defensive players on the New Orleans Saints, as well as defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, maintained a "bounty" program funded primarily by players in violation of NFL rules during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons, the NFL announced Friday.

The investigation by the league's security department determined that an improper "pay for performance" program included "bounty" payments to players for inflicting injuries on opposing players that would result in them being removed from a game.

In some cases, the amounts pledged were both significant and directed against a specific opposing player, according to the investigation.

The findings, corroborated by multiple independent sources, have been presented to commissioner Roger Goodell, who will determine the appropriate discipline.

"It is our responsibility to protect player safety and the integrity of our game, and this type of conduct will not be tolerated," Goodell said in a statement.

The Saints are a bunch of wads for engaging in this type of behavior. I would think that Goodell will come down on them hard!

With the way Goodell is about player safety, hes going to Tom Benson and the rest of the Saints in the ass hard with no lube.

What could they do to punish the organization though? I can see them suspending or fining the players and coaches involved. But how do they punish the organization as a whole? Take away draft picks? Lower their salary cap, spending ability? I don't see simply fining the team as much of a punishment.

And it's not like college football and they could take away scholarships or ban them from playing in a bowl game.

Sons every NFL team does this. In this day and age were the NFL is a pussy league and on the verge of turning into a two hand touch league and removing tackling all together I'm sure it is completely blown out of proportion.

Well Gregg Williams just went public and admitted hes a dumbass. He and Payton will be suspended, they will lose draft picks, and fined.

They will lose multiple draft picks. That kills the organization in the NFL.

I doubt teams do this any more with the increased emphasis on safety.

Son, this is your fandom speaking. I normally agree with a lot of what you say, and I cheered for the Saints when my Boys didn't get there, but this is garbage. This is why the retirees are dying in their 60's and begging for money from the league. The Saints were trying to take years off people's lives, tbh imo.

Totally forgot about that. And now that this news is out, Gregg Williams apologizes. At least BB had the balls to just say he did it and move on. The Saints organization will begin it's apology fest and act like it's about them being sorry for doing this. When they really only feel bad that they got caught.

...and for the record I still believe that many new rules are ing gay--ESPECIALLY the defenseless receiver one--that can change games and we all saw how horrible and over-the-top almost every one of those penalties was this past year.

At the same time, wantonly malicious hits like the Warner one, the real late hits on Favre, Harrison's act, and Dunta Robinson's bs should be dealt with

    I won't defend the Saints.

Even thought the Warner hit was legal and that game was already over, I didn't like the hit by Mccray at all. Made me cringe. Didn't think it was cool at all.

The hits on Favre were not just dirty, but flat out stupid. There were 3-4 penalties called on those hits which gave the Vikings unnecessary 1st downs. Not cool at all.

I'm glad Williams is gone. He was a terrible coordinator the last two seasons and cost them in the playoffs with his play-calling.

The team should get punished because it was a stupid thing to do.

There very well could be criminal charges to come out of this. The precedent has already been set in Hockey. At the very least there could conspiracy charges.

honest to God, i think football represents everything that is wrong in american society today.

gloryfying injuring people. literally paying people to injure others.
and the worst part is that society as a whole practically worships
these overgrown thugs and treats them as gods.

you pay them to injure eachother.

football sans QB and receivers require no skill. talent, strength yes. skill? no.

americans spend their sundays, what used to be a day of worshiping your faith, now worshiping these overgrown men who get paid outlandish amounts of cash to hurt each other.

i have been disgusted with football for a long time now but this just solidifies it for me.

i truly hope that sooner than later this sport is regulated more justly and safety becomes a priority. i'd rather watch a football game based on skill rather than just brute strength.

the nfl is absolutely sickening to me.
    copypasta gold lmao
